We are seeking a commercially minded paralegal or newly qualified solicitor for a 9 month fixed term contract (or a 6 month fixed term contract for a trainee placement) on a full-time basis. This could be an exciting development opportunity for the right candidate, gaining exposure to the exciting world of film production, financing and acquisitions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The role is broad in nature and requires a reliable and pro-active team member. Experience in commercial environments, with a natural aptitude for the interactivity between the creative, commercial, production and corporate worlds would be advantageous. Responsibilities will include driving the Business and Legal Affairs work across a wide variety of matters and projects on a day-to-day basis, including:

  • assisting in structuring, negotiating and drafting content acquisition agreements in relation to finished films/documentaries, and titles going into production;

  • working across ad hoc new business projects in the direct-to-consumer space, such as the establishment of apps, websites and SVOD services (with a focus on consumer issues and regulation);

  • understanding issues relating to and providing advice on issues arising in direct-to-consumer regulation, including consumer law, IP, advertising/marketing and content regulation, with additional focus on research and knowledge-sharing regarding any upcoming changes to the law;

  • liaising internally at NBCUniversal with cross disciplinary teams and externally with other studios, distributors, platforms, talent, creative and production personnel; and

  • working collaboratively across the team to share and improve knowledge, through know-how research/presentations, the development of templates etc.

The role requires someone who:

  • is passionate about working on the creation and distribution of exciting content and seeking to learn as much as possible about all aspects of the media industry;

  • has a positive can do attitude;

  • has good drafting skills and attention to detail;

  • is adept at multi-tasking, often switching between tasks on a day-to-day basis;

  • is self-motivated and seeks personal development through working with, learning from and observing experienced media lawyers;

  • is consistently reliable and works to build trust with their manager and business stakeholders;

  • is commercially minded and solutions-orientated and genuinely enjoys solving commercial and corporate problems; and

  • is able to self-manage and also to operate in a supportive team environment, instinctively feeding into the improvement of the team’s systems, templates and processes where applicable.
