The Team and Job Summary

We are seeking a n Associate to join our Global Investigations team. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven person with a well-rounded skill set to join the Global Investigations team, whose responsibilities extend beyond those of traditional Associate. The ideal person for this role will need to not only have a strong grasp of global investigation but also be flexible and a strategic thinker able to take on a variety of tasks.

In this role, the successful candidate will be required to work on a number of investigative assignments including asset tracing; evidence gathering and other intelligence-led litigation/arbitration support.

While we will consider candidates with no work experience in the sector, an individual with a minimum of one year’s relevant experience in the industry is desirable. The position requires a strong academic background and excellent written and oral English and French In addition, the role requires proficiency in research and report writing skills.

The ideal candidate will be someone who is committed to developing their skills and establishing a career in the investigations sector with a focus on dispute related investigations and asset tracing. They will be a self-starter who takes initiative in their approach to work and is enthusiastic about our sector, as well as being analytically minded and having a proven record of carrying out research and writing of the highest standard. They will also have experience working in a commercial environment and will be familiar with business, legal and financial terminology. They will be committed to personal growth and development aided by a wide range of supporting programs which we as a firm provide to help develop internal skills.

The successful candidate will be under the guidance of senior members of the Associates team and report directly to one of the Managing Directors.

This role requires flexibility as the successful candidate will on occasion be required to travel and work outside normal working hours, including weekends and public holidays, as the requirements of projects may dictate.

Job Responsibilities

  • Desk-based research, drawing upon the range of search engines and databases generally available, and those available to the company under licence or other authority;

  • Field research, utilising access to files, records and other information held publicly;

  • Other proactive research and enquires as required, including interviews conducted by telephone and face-to-face;

  • Present analytical findings to the highest standard in the form of written reports, verbal briefs and visuals;

  • Support researching and drafting of project proposals;

  • Maintenance of project files, electronically and/or in hard copy as required;

  • Develop and maintain a network in relevant jurisdictions;

  • Keep updated on political developments and conduct field research;

  • Contribute to identifying and developing resources useful for investigative research.

    Required Qualifications

  • Native or near-native English speaker;

  • Native or near-native French speaker;

  • Minimum 2:1 degree;

  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills;

  • Experience in research and report writing on a quick turnaround basis;

  • Experience in reporting directly to clients;

  • Ability to debrief external resources in person and by telephone;

  • Knowledge of research databases;

  • Ability to handle and manage a number of different time sensitive matters simultaneously;

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, PowerPoint and Excel);

  • Ability to work independently on assignments across JSH’s areas of work;

  • Ability to juggle multiple assignments and deadlines at once.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ISDS disputes/asset recovery against states/SOEs

  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant subject;

  • Experience living/working abroad;

  • Knowledge of additional foreign languages

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Ability to travel as needed
