Qualifications
High school diploma required. Certificate, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in a related discipline preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with at least five years of proven experience working with private or public foundations and grant writing. Must possess excellent research, writing, verbal, interpersonal, computer, presenting/speaking, and organizational skills. Travel and attendance at evening and weekend events is required. Must know the state and local community and have existing relationships with industry and community leaders. Must have the ability to work independently and manage complex assignments with organizational skills and attention to detail. The candidate for this position should be highly energetic with a distinguished record of building donor relationships and closing gifts, annual giving, major/principal gifts, and/or capital campaigns.
* Job Summary*
Under the guidance of college leadership and the associate vice president for educational innovation, the development officer is responsible for managing and engaging in various aspects of development, which include relationship building with faculty/staff; fundraising; grants; alumni outreach; donor campaign development and budgeting; and all reporting and fiduciary responsibilities associated with a growing and thriving professional fundraising and development program. The development officer operates at the highest level of integrity and complies with generally accepted fundraising and development standards and guidelines.
The development officer works collaboratively on proper event planning, marketing/branding, and outreach; builds pipeline strategies for prospective donors and establish contact; and ensures that positive and purposeful prospect work complements efforts in donor relations.
* Essential Duties* This position requires extensive hands-on interaction with business, industry, philanthropic entities, faculty, staff, and administration. As a result, this position requires physical presence to complete the essential duties found below.
* General:*
- Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift prospects.
- In coordination with administration, manages, develops, and implements strategies for major gifting, planned/annual giving, and private/public grants.
- Works with college leadership to establish a vision and goals for all donor-related activities.
- Prepares timely and accurate annual goals, timetables, budgets, and annual reports.
- Participates in major industry and community events to build relationships and discover potential funding opportunities.
- Collaborates with the instructional leadership to identify funding needs for instructional programs.
- Serves on community boards and maintains active engagement and leadership with fundraising organizations.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with individuals and constituent groups, both externally and internally, to maximize fundraising results.
- Works within a metrics system, including benchmarks for personal visits, major gift solicitations, and a prescribed number of new prospects identified annually.
- Develops a long-term funding plan that aligns with the college's mission and strategic plan.
- Works with senior instructional designer for development to develop grant applications for new and existing programs.
- Keeps abreast of changing grant standards and proposal practices and guidelines and ensures college compliance with all grant conditions and certified assurances.
- Assures proper expenditure of development office budgets.
- Coordinates with the Marketing department to promote fundraising and donor recognition.
- Assists in monitoring college contracts to ensure comp liance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
