About the role:

This role ensures that BC complies with the latest environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards through global Smeta audit compliance and BC programs related to safety and health. This role will engage with regional and local stakeholders in HR, CSD and Site Plant Managers to ensure compliance. To achieve this, this role ensures requirements are clearly understood and will measure and report progress and trends across the company. This role is responsible for interacting with customers regarding the principles and overall results of our Smeta compliance policy. Additionally, this role collaborates with relevant functions and expertise to design proactive programs to ensure continued compliance to Smeta, BC Standards and relevant ESG requirements.

Key responsibilities:

Drive compliance to SMETA requirements

  • Lead and coordinate stakeholders across the company to ensure we comply with Smeta and relevant ESG safety and health requirements and expectations.

  • Share knowledge with all relevant stakeholders on these requirements and expectations, build and share training to advise regions and sites on (customer) requirements related to ESG S&H -Smeta compliance.

  • Liaise with directly with global customers and sales to align on the approach to ESG S&H-Smeta compliance (5-15% of time).

  • Build and maintain a virtual organization with the regions and sites to ensure regional support is provided and local capabilities and responsibilities are at level.

  • Periodically review the audit planning, progress & compliance status of our sites to ensure that we meet ESG S&H-Smeta requirements.

  • Contribute to the Sedex and Aim Progress meetings to advance BC interests and ensure that our company is up-to-date on the latest industry developments via Sedex and other sources.

  • Design with the HR, CSD and SHE Leaders proactive programs and agree on risk mitigation measures, based on risk assessment, to ensure continued compliance to Smeta, due diligence legislation and relevant ESG safety and health requirements.

  • Report on a regular basis on progress, challenges and trends related to ESG-Smeta compliance.

  • Support identification of gaps in the related management systems and support if demanded.

  • Manage the contract and services with the global Smeta third party audit company.

    Lead BC’s Safety & Health Audit program

  • Drive the worldwide implementation of BC Safety & Health Standards, Systems and Programs through the management of the Safety & Health Internal Audit program.

  • Monitor and report on gap assessments against the BC Standards with the objective of achieving compliance and following up on issues requiring additional support/standardization and identifying repetitive related gaps that require global escalation and review.

  • Lead proactive corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence of issues identified by the audits.

  • Collaborate with Internal Audit to share audit programs, objectives, checklists and outcomes.

    About you:

  • Master Degree in business management, communications, economy or equivalent through experience.

  • Strong knowledge of ESG safety, health & environment and Smeta compliance requirements.

  • Experience in auditing, compliance or related fields is preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in a multinational company.

  • Experience and comfortable in dealing with global customers in a B2B environment.

  • Knowledge of Smeta and similar requirements, understanding of upcoming relevant ESG legislation.

  • Be analytical and data/results oriented to interpret and transform facts and findings into actions and programs.

  • Has understanding in operating in a virtual organization and matrix structure.
