JOB SUMMARY:

Assists Nurse Manager of Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), a critical care unit where the patient s vital signs are closely observed, pain management begins, and fluids are given. Ensuring that quality nursing care is delivered to all patients and his/her nursing units in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the hospital. Assists with the development of patient care standards, orientation and continuing education. Provides input into evaluation of staff performance in accordance with organizational policies. Participates in nursing Quality Improvement. Assists with unit administration, including scheduling, payroll and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Maintains and role models clinical skills necessary to provide care to patients. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient s age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care. Ensure that [unit/department/division] is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.

EDUCATION & Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing

  • Bachelor of Science of Nursing (BSN)

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a PACU setting

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Goal and outcome oriented

  • Demonstrated leadership and/or Charge Nurse experience

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required. (American Heart Association)

  • Advanced Cardiac Lift Support (ACLS) Certified

  • Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New Jersey

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-time

  • Evening shift, 3:00P-4:00A

  • 12.5 Hr. Shift

  • 37.5 hrs. Weekly

  • Weekend Obligation

  • Rotating holiday requirements

Essential Functions:

  • The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.

  • The Registered Nurse assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of their own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others in the patient care team by communication with and utilizing resource persons and programs available.

  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.

  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served.

  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.

  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.

  • The Registered Nurse is an individual practitioner and the interdisciplinary team manager, who utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient s needs.
