Area Specialist – Arkansas Child Nutrition Unit (CNU)

CNU is seeking a team member that will promote the health and wellbeing of children in public schools across the State of Arkansas.

This position will be the prime contact to Superintendents, Child Nutrition (CN) Directors, Business Managers, and all other applicable positions for a regional assigned area consisting of 30-35 school districts. This position provides support in meal pattern and nutritional quality, meal counting and claiming, resource management of CN programs, and many general areas of CN. Area Specialist grow to be experts in multiple United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Programs including National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Afterschool Snack Program, Seamless Summer Program, and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. These programs support the nation’s agriculture and provide meals for students from Pre-k through 12th grade.

Each Area Specialist is assigned a section of the state. The position will travel to their assigned area to complete Administrative Reviews during the school year. This will involve in-state overnight travel is needed. Most reviews take an average of 3 days. This position also travels to their assigned area during the summer to review summer meals and provide training and technical assistance when requested by the district.

The right candidate will seek a passion to educate CN Professionals through training modules online and in-person to support professional development requirements. Federal programs administered by CNU are backed by the research conducted by the Institute of Medicine and current Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Summary

The Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for planning and directing the quality assurance program for an agency. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Supervises administrative support staff by interviewing applicants, making hire or termination recommendations, training, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Evaluates program services and identifies areas in need of improvement and submits programs to superiors or committee for approval. Provides technical assistance to agency personnel on quality assurance by conducting team training sessions in audit methodology and procedures. Conducts audits, reviews staff reports of audit findings, and investigates reasons for problems, errors, or lack of quality of services. Attends various meetings regarding quality assurance and serves as a liaison with other state, regional, and national agencies and groups concerning related programs. Compiles information and recommendations into various program reports and presents to the Quality Assurance Committee for review. Develops and modifies agency-wide policies, procedures, and standards related to quality assurance programs and ensures program compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to research, analyze, and evaluate information and prepare reports. Ability to interpret state and federal laws and regulations and agency standards concerning quality assurance. Ability to conduct audits of agencies' operations, investigate problems, and gauge quality of service. Ability to utilize computer software and applications.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in business administration, human services, or related field; plus four years of experience in evaluating or auditing programs, including two years in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
