$66,400 - $116,700 Per Year

  1. Monitors pipeline conditions to ensure available transport. Must be able to accurately communicate possible constraints or outages that would limit AECC’s fuel supply including mines, railroads, natural gas pipelines and other carriers, to Market Operations. Analyzes gas economics daily and communicates information to market operations to be used in day ahead and real time electric market offers.

  2. Analyzes gas plant dispatch decisions from a gas procurement perspective to implement strategies that will improve economics. Monitors and analyzes AECC's fuel usage, fuel inventories, natural gas imbalances and fuel transportation activities to avoid penalties related to fuel transportation.

  3. Prepares and transmits Request for Quotations to fuel suppliers based on plant needs when either self-scheduled or at market clearing. Compiles, organizes and analyzes fuel quotations and transportation rates and uses this data to determine which fuel supply would be the most economical for AECC's plants and submits timely and accurate nomination to pipelines as required.

  4. Coordinates the purchase and delivery of fuel to be used at AECC's power plants after hours, weekends and holidays.

  5. Manages data needed for the approval of monthly fuel supply, and monthly pipeline invoices for fuel delivered by four natural gas pipelines. Communicates with Accounting Department, as needed, to ensure fuel supply and fuel transportation invoices are paid and associated costs are properly recorded.

  6. Assists in analyzing economics and reliability of various natural gas transportation contracting options to ensure optimal delivery of gas to power plants for current and future needs.

  7. Identifies new supply sources and coordinates NAESB contract approval. Maintains current information on fuel suppliers and fuel transporters used to supply and transport fuel to ensure available transport for contracted fuel transporters to AECC's seven natural gas power plants.

  8. Monitors fuel and fuel transportation activities related to coal-fired plants that AECC co-owns with other utilities.

  9. Conducts gas-related economic studies requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.

  10. Analyzes short-term and long-term forecasts produced by others to help plan for AECC's fuel needs. Obtains needed data from outside sources to use as reference in studies of AECC Fuels needs.

  11. Maintains knowledge of compliance requirements of AECC, FERC and Power Markets as it relates to Fuels and ensures that those requirements are met, immediately reporting any potential violations to the Compliance Department.

  12. The ability to handle necessary stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.

  13. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or similar field plus 4+ years related experience and/or training.

Operator II - 4 years related experience

Operator III - 6 years related experience

Sr Operator- 8 years related experience

Driver’s License

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must be proficient in the following:

  • Advanced knowledge of gas supply and transportation contracts

  • Performance information on AECC’s gas generation assets

  • Must have the knowledge and ability to purchase and schedule autonomously

  • Knowledge of power marketing practices and strategies

  • Knowledge of the different pipeline tariffs and practices
