Job Overview and Responsibilities

Syensqo is creating its internal Global Business Services (GBS) to cover Finance, Procurement and Human Resources activities. We offer you to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment and to contribute to this group’s transformation. Join us in our Lisbon service center, which is together with the service center in Curitiba, and Bangkok,part of this transformation journey.

The VAT team is integrated in the Finance department, being focused on VAT and Indirect Tax.

As a VAT Expert, you will work in a multinational environment and you will get the opportunity to contribute to the compliance of the Syensqo entities in EMEA. You will directly report to the Service Billing, Interco and VAT Team Leader.

We are looking for:

  • Someone proactive and experienced in VAT to join our multicultural and diverse team.

The VAT expert will be expected to lead the following key responsibilities for the Syensqo entities in EMEA :

  • Understanding the activity of the entities in VAT terms;

  • Understanding the processes and underlying rules for preparation of the VAT and Intrastat returns and EC-Sales lists;

  • Supporting the VAT accountants in understanding the processes and rules;

  • Assisting the VAT accountants with the preparation of the returns but also preparing the returns where needed and if required;

  • Reviewing, validating and filing the prepared VAT and Intrastat returns and EC-Sales Lists.

  • Ensuring VAT payment review & obtaining required approvals.

  • Leading the VAT audits (internal and external) and questions from authorities;

  • Have insights into the VAT position of the entities and identify compliance risks;

  • Implementing changes in the ERP system caused by changes in VAT legislation upon discussion and decision by the Service Billing, Interco and VAT Team Leader and the Global Trade Indirect Tax and Controversy Lead. .

  • Collaborate closely and partner with other key contributors on the VAT position of the entities in EMEA :

  • Country Accounting Directors, Company Accounting Managers and Tax Compliance Manager

  • Operational team on Accounts payable and Accounts receivable

  • Global Trade Indirect Tax and Controversy Lead

  • Collaborate closely with other GBS functions in order to improve processes, procedures and controls to ensure VAT compliance of the Syensqo entities in EMEA;

Education and Experience

  • University degree in Accounting, Tax, Economics or Finance Tax Specialization

  • Specific VAT certification

  • Relevant experience in VAT and indirect taxes in Europe

  • Good SAP skills
