NMPP Energy, located in Lincoln, Nebraska is seeking a Load Forecast & Planning Specialist to join our team. Use your skills, experience and talents to develop load forecasting models, variance reports, capacity data, and overall capacity management plans.

The Load Forecast & Planning Specialist supports the mission of NMPP Energy by:

  • Evaluating historical and projected weather, population, and other data points and coordinating with others in order to develop winter and summer forecast plans.

  • Evaluating actual loads, weather, and other data points and establishing and evaluating ongoing feedback to refine load forecasting and market position planning.

  • Conducting pricing analysis of Municipal Energy of Nebraska-s (MEAN) loads and resources by extracting data from various MEAN systems and developing pricing forecast models; reporting pricing recommendations to management.

  • Assisting in analysis of power resource reserve margins and fuel diversity and making recommendations for long-term power resource planning; collaborating with resource portfolio team to research and evaluate capacity position and preparing related reports.

  • Assisting in developing MEAN-s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP); manipulating data for required IRP formats; conducting various IRP scenario analysis; developing forecast models to form IRP plans for any communities contracting for this service.

  • Assisting in developing an overall capacity plan that meets the needs of projected loads; coordinating with Finance in order to optimize budget planning.

  • Reviewing resource purchase proposals and Request For Proposals for new or modified loads and evaluating financial and other impacts on capacity and energy planning.

  • Developing forecast models for Distributed Energy Resources, Demand Side Management, and Electrification for member towns; integrating those results with load forecasts to meet the compliance requirement.

  • Conducting annual load survey for member communities and seeking input regarding potential load changes in order to develop individual load forecasts for members.

  • Coordinating with internal staff and external customers to maintain database and filing requirements; documenting changes as they occur.

  • Identifying and following applicable Working Groups, Committees, and Task Forces for load forecasting; attending applicable conferences, teleconferences and meetings to provide management an overview and feedback on topics discussed; collaborating with others on Staff to evaluate impacts to MEAN.

Skills & Qualifications You Need

  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics or engineering from a four-year college or university and 1-3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis software that includes SAS and R

  • Proven ability to gather, analyze, and interpret large data sets.

  • Demonstrated ability to create complex spreadsheets and use computerized planning tools

  • Working knowledge of database use, including Access

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
