Job Description
Position Description:
Under direct supervision of District Garage Manager, assists higher-level mechanics in maintenance, repair & replacement of major parts on cars, trucks & equipment. Uses hand & power tools in performing routine maintenance & minor repairs (e.g., changes oil & filters, replaces spark plugs, checks radiators, changes hoses, adds antifreeze, checks &/or replaces tires, lubricates vehicles & equipment, steam cleans engines & equipment). Repairs & replaces minor defective parts (e.g., hoses, distributor caps, windshield wiper blades, belts).
Uses personal computer (e.g., Equipment Management System (EMS)) to enter & retrieve fuel & oil usage data. Assists in distribution of parts, packages & interoffice mail among counties.
Delivers & picks up vehicles. Assists in inspecting state vehicles (e.g., inspects condition of tires, fan belts & hoses; checks batteries & engine oil & other fluid levels). Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor (e.g., removes trash, ensures cleanliness & orderliness of garage area).
