Central Maine Medical Center CNA Trainee - Earn While You Learn Program in Lewiston, Maine

Central Maine Medical Center is looking for its next class of CNA Trainees! Participate in an 8-week state approved Certified Nursing Assistant training program starting on October 14th. This program is 24 hrs per week and not only do we cover the cost of the schooling, but you will also be paid $18/hr to learn how to become a CNA and start your career in healthcare!

Textbooks and workbooks are provided at no charge. At the end of the program, students take the state CNA certification examination at no cost to them. Once the student passes the state CNA exam they will be offered a CNA position here with the CMMC team!

Position Summary:

Participates in the CNA Training course approved by Central Maine Healthcare. Participates in classroom, lab, and clinical instruction to meet the criteria to sit for the State Certification Exam. The training will enable care of patients throughout the lifespan, under the direction of a registered nurse. Introduction to the concepts of legal and ethical aspects of care, communication, documentation, and safety.

Education and Experience:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older

  • High School graduate or GED Equivalent required.

  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred

Essential Content of the Training Program:

  • The course and clinicals will be led and coordinated by an approved RN.

  • Maintain a proper physical and emotional patient environment.

  • Report and record observations.

  • Provides aid in personal hygiene.

  • Assist with body movement and ambulation.

  • Assist with nutrition and elimination.

  • Assist in emergency situations.

  • The trainee is allowed to perform duties while enrolled in the course as taught and coordinated by the RN Instructor. If the trainee is enrolled as part of an earn to learn program, where they hold another job title, they cannot perform any CNA skills during hours being worked in their second job role.

    Professional Accountabilities :

  • The CNA Trainee demonstrates effective communication skills, appropriate resource utilization and outstanding customer service skills.

  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.

  • Reports to class on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.

  • Wears identification while in training, notifies instructor if unable to attend class.

  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility

  • Maintains confidentiality of information at all times.

  • Follows policies and procedures related to medical legal matters, including confidentiality, amendments of medical records, patient rights, medical records as legal evidence and informed consent

  • Demonstrates an understanding of fire and electrical safety, infection control, body mechanics, and related areas, as appropriate to position.

  • Follows all employee health procedures, incident reporting, and infection control requirements at all times, as appropriate to the position.

  • Uses proper body mechanics at all times as required by the physical demands of the position.

  • Maintains a safe work environment and performs duties of the position in a manner consistent with ensuring the safety of self and others.

  • Identifies safety needs in areas outside own work environment, recommending corrective action as appropriate.

  • Performs job tasks efficiently and effectively resulting in no unplanned overtime.

  • Maintains a pleasant and helpful demeanor, and presents a professional appearance toward all internal and external customers at all times.

  • Takes appropriate action to recover from a service difficulty, ensuring that the necessary action is taken to affect a resolution to the customer’s problem.

  • Conducts all work activities with respect for coworkers, including the maintenance of a pleasant and professional environment, fostering calmness during stressful situations.

  • Interacts with supervisory personnel in a professional, supportive and courteous manner, venting emotions appropriate to time and place.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to service by consistent attendance and punctuality, scheduling absences according to departmental requirements, and incurring unplanned absences only when unavoidable circumstances exist.

*Successful graduates will be required to work as a CNA at a Central Maine Healthcare Facility for at least one year upon completion of the course.
