Job Description

Summary

Plans, schedules and monitors the movement of materials through the production cycle to determine required materials purchases. Obtains materials using engineering (i.e., Just in Time purchases, use of EOQ - Economic Order Quantities). Resolves discrepancies. Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. Supports Proposal Management Center operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Creates and maintains bills of material and parts/commodities numbers in supply chain management or other enterprise-wide systems.

  • Ensures material standards are met and non-conformances or variances are approved and/or minimized.

  • Develops specifications for new contract orders.

  • Gathers quotations, examines bids and makes awards.

  • Monitors cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value.

  • Evaluates vendor reliability and develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive.

  • Revise production schedules when required due to design changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, collaborating with management, sales, production or engineering.

  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 2-5 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
