Eurofins Sr Network Engineer in Lenexa, Kansas

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibility: 

The Network Engineer is primarily responsible for engineering, configuration, installation, maintenance, and upgrade of networks, routers, switches, firewalls, remote access systems, and network management systems. This role requires a strong understanding of network protocols, hardware, and software, as well as excellent problem-solving skills.

Essential Job Duties:

Level I - Minimum

  • Assist in research, evaluation, and recommendation of networking hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls,  remote access systems, and network management systems. 

  • Assist in designing, configuring, or upgrading local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN/WLAN).

  • Assist in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving connection, reliability, or performance issues.

  • Keep the workroom neat, organized, and secure.

  • Work under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment.

  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex projects to learn through experience.

  • Apply basic application management and administration skills with a moderate level of proficiency.

  • Represent the department and the organization favorably and in accordance with established Company standards and associate attributes.

  • Work within defined ITIL processes such as change and incident management.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Level II – Fully meets the responsibilities of Level I plus the following:

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend networking hardware and software such as routers, switches, firewalls, remote access systems, and network management systems. 

  • Design, configure, or upgrade local/wide area networks (LAN/WAN/WLAN).

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve connection, reliability, or performance issues with little guidance from senior members of the team.

  • Work within and assist with management of defined IT processes and procedures.

  • Work with little to no supervision with latitude for independent judgment.

  • Consult with senior peers on medium to complex projects.

  • Assist in overseeing the primary activities of individual contributors (see above) to ensure completion of tasks and attainment of departmental goals.

Senior – Fully meets the responsibilities of Level II plus the following:

  • Work with little to no supervision with extreme latitude for independent judgment

  • Proficient in all levels and phases of network support

  • Partner with key vendors to manage and maintain currency of technology and firmware.

  • Serve as escalation point for issues beyond more junior team members authority; resolve conflicts involving scheduling, resources, or technical issues

  • May be responsible for helping to plan annual budget for department's personnel, capital, and/or operation expenses

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Level I - Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, business or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience with Cisco switches/routers, firewalls and related device support.

  • Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP familiarity

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving ability

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Knowledge of reference lab operations and processes a plus.

  • Knowledge and management of System Development Lifecycle Methodologies a plus.

  • Experience in maintaining technical documentation to ensure efficient planning and execution

  • Goal-oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills

  • Keenly attentive to detail

  • Ability to keep sensitive information confidential

High level of proficiency with PC-based software programs including MS Office suite, Visio, and project management tools.

Level II – Fully meets the qualifications of Level I plus the following:

  • Minimum of 3-7 years of experience with Cisco switches/routers, firewalls, and related device support.

  • Minimum of 3-7 years of experience planning and implementing local & wide area networks (LAN/WAN/WLAN) Minimum of 3-7 years of experience planning and implementing layer 2 network design and protocols (STP, VLAN)

  • Minimum of 3-7 years of experience planning and implementing enterprise networks with dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP)

  • Experience using and applying System Development Lifecycle Methodologies.

  • Previous experience in a reference lab or similar regulated/controlled environment.

  • Experience using automation platform such as Ansible

Senior – Fully meets the qualifications of Level II plus the following:

  • 7+ years of experience with Cisco switches/routers, firewalls and related device support.

  • 7+ years of experience designing, configuring, and upgrading local & wide area networks (LAN/WAN/WLAN).

  • 7+ years of experience designing, configuring, and upgrading layer 2 network design and protocols (STP, VLAN)

  • 7+ years of experience designing, configuring, and upgrading enterprise networks with dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP)

  • Demonstrated positive experience with System Development Lifecycle Methodologies

  • Demonstrated experience in SD-WAN, NAC, segmentation & micro-segmentation technologies.

  • Experience with network automation and testing platforms.

  • Technical certification such as Cisco or cloud networking.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.

  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.

  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).

  • Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.
