Position Overview

Do you have a passion for leveraging data to help solve interesting business problems and a strong understanding of Estimating for Engineering and Construction projects? We are seeking a Mid-career to Sr. level Data Analyst to support our Project Controls/Estimating team to deliver analytical solutions to the team through thorough analysis of current and historical project data. In this role you will work with the business to understand challenges in estimating diverse projects in order to build analytical solutions to address those challenges. You will also gather, extract, restructure, analyze and interpret data, communicating findings and recommendations to the business and improve company standards and establish benchmarks to contribute to our success in project execution.

District Overview

Our rapidly growing Kiewit Industrial Design Group , which includes project controls, estimating, scheduling and a multi-disciplined team of engineers, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Consumer Products, Heavy Manufacturing, Mining, Industrial Buildings, Industrial Water/Wastewater, and Advanced technologies. Our staff leads the industrial markets engineering design and estimating process and collaborates with Kiewit’s construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.

Location

This position is based out of our Lenexa, KS campus. We offer relocation assistance to the area.

Responsibilities

Standardize and Compare engineering and construction project data in different market area using information from P6 data, general client data and location data, data from our Estimating tool (InEight), and Power BI.

Deliverables include correlate data between projects/markets, analyze manpower curves to make comparisons between markets/project and develop a Sharepoint Site for benchmarking future projects to be utilized by engineering/construction when formulating estimates.

Apply knowledge of estimating, engineering and construction functions and concepts to develop a framework for realistic planning and estimating.

Deliver analytical solutions to the business. You will need to bring a strong business acumen and work to understand the business challenges facing your stakeholders and deduce where the greatest opportunity for analytics solutions lies. From there, you will need to leverage your technical skills and deep knowledge of data to deliver/build solutions to these stakeholders.

Perform Data Modeling – You will have access to many data sources to provide solutions to your stakeholders. But often this data may not be modeled or structured in an optimal manner to meet your needs. We will have resources to offer support, but ultimately you will be expected to be highly self-sufficient and have the technical skills (SQL) to restructure this data as needed.

Visualize and present data to communicate your findings, or perhaps create a sustainable dashboard solution. Your output will embody data visualization best practices and meet our high-quality and performance standards.

Perform data mining, collection, manipulation and data Analysis to make strategic recommendations to the business.

Communication and Presentation – On the front end, you will be expected to guide requirement gathering conversations with stakeholders, asking insightful questions to see the business from their perspective. On the back end of solution development/analysis, you will be expected to explain results of analysis to team members, train stakeholders on how to use decision support tools, and succinctly convey how solutions meet specific business needs.

Qualifications

Interest in leveraging data to solve unique and challenging business problems; Strong critical thinking skills, high business acumen, with excellent written and verbal communication skills

Minimum of 5+ years work experience performing data analysis, data mining, statistical analysis, etc. in a professional setting, of estimating and technical project data

Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Business Management, or related field;

Previous data analysis experience in Construction or Engineering company required

Estimating experience highly desired

Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines, goals and objectives.

Database querying using SQL for MS SQL Server (or Teradata) is required.

Must have proven experience in Data Visualization using Power BI and experience developing dashboards, and presenting data findings to leadership.

Must have experience in Statistical coding languages (Python, or R) in a job (not just through school)

Knowledge of data lineage and ETL with the experience to clean and analyze data and present findings to leadership
