Naval Facilities Engineering Command MAINTENANCE WORKER in Lemoore, California
Summary You will serve as a MAINTENANCE WORKER in the PUBLIC WORKS BUSINESS LINE of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. Responsibilities You will measure, cut, construct, install, repair, and modify wood, composite, and wood substitutes to produce usable items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding and scaffolds. You will apply standard measurements, specifications, and instructions to produce a serviceable product or make repairs or modifications where specific fit and accuracy are within allowable limits. You will prepare (scraping, filling holes, sanding) and paints wood, metal, concrete, and masonry surfaces of interior, exterior and components of buildings and other structures using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other means of application. You will utilize surface preparation techniques that will protect the surface and result in proper adherence of coating materials. You will prepare floor surfaces and applies finishing materials using floor sanders, hand tools, brushes, rollers, and other standard equipment. You will mark and stripe asphalt, concrete, and similar surfaces. You will repair and replace traps, defective faucets and flush-o-meters, sections of defective tile or pipe, and leaky drains. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Operating and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to the carpentry and plumbing trade; 2) Reading and following specific shop directions to complete the trade; 3) Assisting others with Repairing and/or replacing traps, defective faucets and flush-o-meters, sections of defective tile or pipe, and leaky drains; 4) Assisting others in replacing windows and doors, installing jams, repairing/replacing flooring, painting, general rough framing, and sheet rock installation. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. PHYSICAL EFFORT The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 40 pounds unassisted and over 40 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, cramped areas, or confined spaces where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Employee will be required to pass a pre-employment physical and annually thereafter. WORKING CONDITIONS The employee works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas or confined spaces. Conditions are often dirty, dusty, greasy, hot, wet, or cold. Exposed to blood born pathogens. Subject to discomforts from face masks or other protective devices wen these is a possibility of exposure to noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Employee subject to possible burns, cuts, and injury from falls. May be required to wear safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats and other personal protective equipment. This position may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. Incumbent must possess a valid California Class C Driver License. The employee may be re-called to duty or required to work overtime on an emergency basis. Overtime, weekend, shift work is required.
