Argonne National Laboratory Project Construction Manager in Lemont, Illinois
We are actively seeking a skilled and experienced Project Construction Manager to join our Infrastructure Services Directorate. In this vital role, you will provide technical leadership and oversee Argonne's Construction Management Program within the Project Management Organization (PMO). You will be responsible for ensuring the soundness and effectiveness of construction planning and execution across the Argonne campus site, while leading a field-based team of professional Project Specialists. Responsibilities:
Develop and update policies and implementation plans for the construction management program.
Coordination and inspection all site construction activities.
Monitor project sites and contractor activities for schedule and quality adherence.
Consult on design reviews specific to constructability criteria.
Review or delegate review of design packages for constructability, completeness, and accuracy prior to release for construction.
Provide innovative/thorough/practicable solutions to a wide range of complex problems that are consistent with organizational goal/objectives using industry standards, principles, concepts and techniques.
Responsible for integration and coordination of ESH, OSHA, DOE, and Laboratory safety policies and procedures.
Work independently with minimal oversight.
Lead a team of professional Project Specialists, ensuring the successful execution of their core responsibilities, which include:
Overseeing project completion with a focus on construction management and adherence to contract requirements.
Verifying that construction work undergoes thorough inspection and meets high standards of quality.
Managing the identification, issuance, and compliance of all necessary permits, including Hot Work, Excavation, and Confined Space Permits, among others.
Ensures consistent daily reporting and other related field documentation is maintained
Provide periodic updates and revisions to Argonne Division 1 specifications.
Coordinate required contractor documents including job safety analyses (JSA’s), fall plans, crane lift plans, material handling, building energization plans, safety permits, and contractor training records/certifications.
Evaluate competent person designations.
Attend pre-job meetings, safety meetings, and weekly construction progress meetings as schedule permits.
Maintain a 100% on-site presence Monday – Friday 7am-3:30pm to align with standard construction contractor working hours. This position is not eligible for a remote work arrangement.
Participate in performance assessments.

30-hour OSHA training.
Comprehensive knowledge of construction safety practices, CFR 851 and CFR 1910.
Comprehensive knowledge of 29 CFR 1926, NFPA 70E, DOE-STD-1090-2020, Hoisting and Rigging, Fall Protection, Excavation, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, and Fire Protection standards.
Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations including special hazards, electrical safety, and PCB and asbestos abatement.
Comprehensive ability to deliver successfully and in partnership with a Project Manager against demanding cost, schedule, technical constraints and within all regulatory guidelines.
Considerable experience using Procore Construction Management software and proficiency in Microsoft Office including core applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.
Preferred Skills
Comprehensive knowledge of Argonne ESH policies and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of engineering principles, practices, codes and standards, as applied to design and construction of research facilities and related utilities.
Considerable knowledge of project management principles and construction practices.
Considerable skill in oral and written communication and maintenance of effective work relationships with others.
Considerable skill in technical direction and supervision.
Considerable skill in estimating construction costs.
Considerable skill in managing the installation and construction of components and systems.
Considerable knowledge of civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage systems.
Considerable knowledge of Industrial Hygiene practices.
Considerable experience working with construction labor unions and union craftsmen.
Education Requirements
Associate’s degree additional experience and/or 10+ years of experience in managing construction/facility projects in the field in lieu of degree considered; or
Bachelor's degree (preferably in Construction Management) and 5+ years of relevant experience; or
Master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience.
