SUMMARY
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, diagnoses operational problems with ready-mix trucks and performs appropriate repairs as needed. Performs preventive maintenance on a regular basis. Complies with all applicable safety policies and regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems with ready-mix trucks and identifies the repairs needed to correct the problems.
Performs necessary mechanical and electrical repairs, adjustments and alterations as appropriate for maintaining proper operation of trucks including, but not limited to, the following: brakes, tires, clutches, electrical systems, cables, air flow systems, hydraulic systems, drive lines, engines, and related systems.
Performs preventive maintenance on the trucks including maintaining proper oil levels, replacing air filters, and performing other regularly scheduled procedures to maintain smooth operation and prevent equipment malfunctions.
Ensures that an updated and accurate log is kept regarding truck maintenance performed.
Reviews daily truck inspection sheets for accuracy and proper documentation.
Performs job responsibilities in compliance with safety regulations.
Performs maintenance and repairs required for operation of the loader. Operates the loader on a relief basis.
Performs maintenance and repairs on plant gear boxes, conveyors and plumbing.
Operates oxygen-acetylene welding equipment to weld materials on trucks, mixer drums, plant equipment, and related items.
Orders parts and supplies needed for maintenance and repair responsibilities. Completes purchase orders as appropriate.
Observes all safety rules and keeps work areas and equipment clean and orderly.
REQUIRED MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
High school graduation or equivalent preferred plus additional training on the proper use, maintenance and repair of mobile equipment.
Two years related job experience preferred in the maintenance and repair of mobile equipment.
Knowledge and ability to perform preventive maintenance and repair on mobile equipment. Extensive knowledge of mechanics and electronics associated with heavy mobile equipment including 12 and 24 volt electrical systems, hydraulic systems, engine drive and train component systems, and brake systems. Ability to perform grinding, cutting, welding and other general mechanical and electrical repair activities. Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
Ability to safely and effectively operate a ready-mix truck and use general hand tools (metric and standard), oxygen-acetylene welding equipment, cutting torches, sand blaster, grinders, drills, power lift, pulleys, presses, jackhammers, large and small air tools, and related equipment.
Work requires walking; climbing stairs and onto ready-mix trucks; bending, pushing and pulling; working in awkward positions and in confined spaces; lying under ready-mix trucks to work on the underside of the trucks; hanging and bending over the tire or hood to work on truck engines; and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Job requires the incumbent to supply general mechanical hand tools as well as a service truck.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Job hazards include exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and all weather conditions.
