Dartmouth Health Women's Health Manager/Educator in Lebanon, New Hampshire
Overview
Oversees the programming and functions of the WHRC. Responsible for day to day operations and budget. Assumes responsibility for teaching classes relating to pregnancy, initial parenting, and lactation. Revises the curriculum to incorporate emerging trends and actual practices.
Responsibilities
Assists the director with preparation and monitoring of budgets.
Interviews and hires new support staff. Coordinates training of new employees. Evaluates the performance of staff, encourages and supports staff education, and fosters personal and professional development. Manages performance problems up to and including termination.
Teaches identified women’s health classes, including childbirth preparation, parenting, and breastfeeding. Identifies individual patient needs and provides resources and/or individual consultation.
Negotiates with instructors and chooses appropriate tax category for agreement (independent contractor, honorarium, or per diem). Ensures contracted childbirth educators teach to D-H standards and practice.
Participates in internal and external maternal and child health education committees and other assigned meetings to evaluate programs, review changes and implement new educational programs. Reports quality measures, attendance, and other data to internal departments.
Promotes the integration of health education with patient care. Revises/develops curriculum and patient education materials.
Assesses the community for outstanding needs, resources, and areas for outreach interventions in the primary arena of childbirth preparation and secondarily to women’s health in general. Participates in public education activities, including educational presentations and media and marketing events.
In coordination with the Newborn Nursery Attending and the Birthing Pavilion nursing staff, provides educational opportunities for residents, nurses, and nursing students.
Maintains an up-to-date library, recommending books, videos, and electronic access to information.
Consults with patients/ conduct retail sales of pregnancy, lactation related, and/or other women’s health related items.
Acts as a member of the Lactation Services Team. Collaborates with Lactation Services to assess patient needs, referral sources, education and optimization of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative.
Triages telephone calls by determining the urgency and nature of requests and taking appropriate action. Directs to appropriate source for assistance. Acts as patient’s advocate and follows up until satisfactorily completed.
Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees and the public by attending safety training in compliance with OSHA and JCAHO requirements, and identifying actual and potential hazards and reporting them to the appropriate source.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management, Health Education, or Human Services with certificate in childbirth education with 5 years of experience with group facilitation teaching, developing, coordinating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating perinatal educational programs.
Knowledge of adult learning theories and group dynamics required.
Prior experience working with patients in a hospital and/or community environment desired.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work productively with the diverse populations and with staff.
