If so, training to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician is the first step on a progressive career ladder at Dartmouth Health. As a Certified Pharmacy Technician, you have the opportunity to progress toward becoming an Advanced Technician, a Pharmacy Lead, Trainer or Supervisor. Pharmacy Technicians are detail-oriented, enjoy a fast-paced environment and are committed to helping patients access the medications they need.

The Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program is designed to give trainees the knowledge and skills they need to embark upon a career in pharmacy. Candidates will be hired by one of the Dartmouth Health pharmacies in Lebanon, NH. Positions are available with the DHMC Inpatient Pharmacy, Dartmouth Cancer Center pharmacy, and the Centerra Retail Pharmacy.

During the 10-week training program, trainees earn 19 college credits, and a wage of $680 per week. Benefits are effective on the first day of training. At the end of the program, students sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Exam and are enrolled in a 2,000-hour US DOL Registered Apprenticeship.

This full-time, benefits-eligible training program starts with one week of onsite orientation, followed by 9 weeks of rigorous academic and vocational training. Those 9 weeks are typically comprised of three days of remote learning and two days of on-the-job training. The program's primary courses are Pharmacology, Medical Terminology, Pharmacy Calculations, Pharmacy Lab, Pharmacy Technician Practices, Pharmacy Practicum, and Communications in Healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Learns and practices routine and specialized technical and clerical duties as defined by the NH Board of Pharmacy.

  • Learns to answer phones and triage customer service issues.

  • Learns to prepare prescription and non-prescription medication and/or devices.

  • Learns to stock and replenish stock locations and automated dispensing machines (ADMs) and/or robots (example: shelves, carousels, Parata).

  • Learns to identify and communicate supply issues, problems or discrepancies appropriately.

  • Learns to deliver meds to beds or patient care areas.

  • Learns to perform purchasing and billing functions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification required within 9 months from date of WRI training program completion.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy.

  • Ability to multitask and demonstrate attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician License with the NH Board of Pharmacy (Paid for by the DHWRI Training Program)
