POSITION STANDARDS

Bachelor’s degree level in a related field required

*

MSN Required within 2 years of hire

*

Current BCLS certification required upon hire, Current ACLS certification required within 90 days of hire. Desirable features include other certifications including “CNE” (Certified Nurse Educator)

*

Registered Nurse with minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience. Current License to practice in the state of New Hampshire.

*

Experience with adult education, preferably in the healthcare field.

*

Ability to make effective presentations and facilitate learning.

*

Experience in learning design, program development, delivery and evaluation.

*

Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with all levels of personnel.

*

Demonstrated skills in nursing expertise, team leadership, leading educational initiatives and project management.

*

Strong organization skills, self-starting initiative, and high belief in the change process.

*

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and using Audio/Visual equipment

PART TWO:FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

*

Position Objective

*

The Perioperative Clinical Educator oversees the Same Day/PACU, Operating Room, and Pre-Admission Testing nursing staff, Certified Surgical Technicians, and Sterile Processing technicians. The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of these specialty areas within the perioperative space.

The Clinical Nursing Educator’s central responsibility is to provide high quality training and educational opportunities for APD nursing staff in an effort to increase overall effectiveness while improving the quality and safety of patient care. The Clinical Nursing Educator will work in conjunction with Nursing Leadership, other managers/directors, educators, and key personnel to design education systems and provide learning in the areas of general and department-specific orientation; competency verification/training; regular in-services; quality improvement and process change initiatives.

Performance Expectation

  • Responsible for Nursing General Orientation.

Develops the training content

*

Delivers the training and ensures competency of all newly hired nurses

*

Follows up with new hires on completion of independent studies/assignments

  • Supports the unit Preceptor Program.

*

Reviews evaluations of preceptors from trainees and provides coaching as necessary

*

Mentors and coaches preceptors, providing direction and feedback to them to ensure unit specific orientation is highly effective

*

Involves Unit Manager when gaps in Preceptor performance exist

  • Supports unit based orientation

*

Supports the manager in development and sustainment of unit based orientation manuals

*

Supports new hire RNs on units

  • Provides and leads a robust & diverse educational program for nursing staff which aligns with evidenced based practice and regulatory requirements

*

Solicits information and data regarding nursing education needs through multiple means

*

  • Supports Emergency Responsiveness of the organization

Provides for scheduled & unscheduled medical emergency drills & simulations

  • Provide information to managers, directors & staff related to supplemental training opportunities through NEAH, Elsevier and other resources.

  • Oversee the nursing clinical requirements for annual mandatory training to comply with CMS/CAH regulations.

  • Support clinics as able (particularly for those skills/processes that are similar to the hospital; e.g. IV skills, moderate sedation, templates for orientation manuals, preceptor development etc.)

  • Oversee new graduate RN program

Develops the program content & training

Provide didactic training for new graduates during their unit based orientation program

  • Facilitate 4th year Nursing Student capstone experience and Nursing Extern Program

Provide bridge between the college/university and the unit managers/preceptors
