Dartmouth Health Cancer Registry Assistant, Part Time in Lebanon, New Hampshire
Overview
20 hours per week
Under the oversight of an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS), becomes proficient in reviewing and entering data on the complete history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status for patients with a cancer diagnosis. Performs follow-up and state reporting functions to ensure proper tracking of cancer patients.
Responsibilities
Under oversight of an ODS:
Enters information on demographic characteristics, diagnostic procedures, diagnosis, and treatment using electronic medical records and health information systems.
Reviews clinical records of cancer patients. Determines reportability of a cancer diagnosis using ICD-O and other pertinent reporting requirement manuals.
Enters pertinent follow up data and subsequent treatment into the registry database.
Identifies new cancer patients through review of reports from pathology, DNA studies, cytology, radiation therapy, autopsy, history, and physical reports.
Submits reports to the New Hampshire State Cancer Registry (NHSCR), including newly identified cancer patients.
Responds to inquiries from other cancer registries regarding the treatment and follow-up of shared cancer patients.
Attends educational meetings online or in person for required continuing education hours.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Manages delegation of follow up to team members to responsibilities
Qualifications
High school graduate with 5 years of combined medical records and computer data base management/ data processing experience, or the equivalent required.
Extensive knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology required.
Strong organizational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail desired.
