Indian Health Service Housekeeping Aid in Lawrence, Kansas

Summary The position is located in the Housekeeping Department at the Haskell Indian Health Center-Kansas Service Unit in Lawrence, Kansas. The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of a clean, sanitary and healthy environment in outpatient care areas. The incumbent reports to the Administrative Officer. This is a Part Time position and the tour of duty will be Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 12:00pm. Responsibilities Provides quality cleaning of facility to include patient care units or assigned special cleaning project. Completes daily cleaning of facility including in the screening room, treatment room, isolation units, (if appropriate) or exam room and clean up after procedures. Responsible for daily inspection of department, cleaning equipment and reporting deficiencies. Exemplifies high standards of hospitality toward internal and external customers, co-workers, subordinates and supervisors. This position is being re-advertised to solicit additional applicants. Qualifications *NOTE: Competition for Housekeeping Aid positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. This is a Part Time position and the tour of duty will be Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 12:00pm. To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: You must be able to perform the following duties without more than normal supervision. Your resume must demonstrate your knowledge, skills and abilities in performing the following types of tasks: WG-3: Follow oral or written instructions and/or work orders; perform janitorial/custodial, and grounds maintenance duties, including mopping, waxing, and polishing floors; cleaning walls, ceilings, room partitions and polishing fixtures; emptying trash receptacles. Cleanup spills, debris, and litter from common areas; and remove soiled and/ or contaminated items following strict procedures to prevent cross contamination. You may need to lift and move heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds. You may need to stand for prolonged periods on concrete floors. You may need to bend, stoop, walk, stand and climb. Subject to exposure to infectious diseases in the clinic, danger of falling off stepladders when cleaning high areas, hanging drapery or curtains. Education There are no education requirements. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
