Position Summary

We are looking for a Specialist Quantitative Microbiologist, to utilize data analytics to promote the microbiologically safe design of products and processes and conduct microbiological food safety assessments in order to address technical assistance inquiries from R&D and operations.

A Day in the Life of a Specialist Quantitative Microbiologist

  • Work with a team of microbiologists to help create a strategy to build, maintain, and expand the use of data to support microbiological risk assessment.

  • Coordinate the collection, verification and analysis of data related to microbial dynamics (e.g growth, inactivation, and survival).

  • Perform and communicate data visualization and predictive models for microbiology R&D projects.

  • Help design and analyze studies, using a range of statistical methods and software.

  • Collaborate with bioinformaticians and statisticians to model data trends.

  • Write scientific publications.

  • Coordinate with 3rd party microbiology laboratories.

  • Provide technical expertise in quantitative (and probabilistic) risk assessment.

What will make you successful

  • PhD degree in Food Science/Microbiology/Biology with specific expertise in mathematics or PhD degree in Mathematics with specific expertise in food microbiology.

  • At least 5 years R&D experience in food science company, academia, or research center.

  • Experience in microbial data analytics including statistical and probabilistic approaches, data visualization and modeling, and the use of programming languages (e.g. R, Python).

  • Experience in quantitative microbial risk assessment.

  • Strong communication skills- both verbal and in writing, of complex scientific information to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

  • Team player with a can-do attitude.

  • High level of motivation and adaptability.

  • Fluent in English.
