Mississippi Employer Unit Secretary in Laurel, Mississippi

Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to read, write and understand written and verbal communication.   Demonstrates secretarial duties with attention to detail and accuracy when providing patient care as evidenced by:

  1. Performing patient record activities and data entry.
  2. Performing clerical functions within the area of responsibility.
  3. Notifying departments appropriate for task (repairs, admissions).
  4. Maintaining a supplied, clean and organized unit; checking orders for accurate delivery as ordered.
  5. Participates in quality measures as indicated by performance dashboard results.
  6. Serving as the point of first contact on the nursing unit and effectively communicating with physicians, ancillary departments and visitors.
  7. Remaining composed and able to provide direction during emergency situations, STAT requests and orders.

Demonstrates appropriate quantity of work as evidenced by:

  1. Ensuring proper supplies are on hand at all times.
  2. Being responsible for the completion of all daily clerical work assignments by the end of the assigned shift.
  3. Adapting to change in work load and prioritizing work.
  4. Coordinating clerical activity in patients' admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Demonstrates through work performed a knowledge of policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department as evidenced by:

  1. Completes HealthStream assignments in a timely manner.
  2. Demonstrating a working knowledge of required computer skills.
  3. Demonstrates a working knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
  4. Assisting in the orientation of new personnel as assigned (clerical duties).
  5. Requesting assistance from appropriate personnel in the event of an unusual or difficult situation.
  6. Performing duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision.

Demonstrating attendance and reliability as evidenced by:

  1. Willing to adjust personal schedule in case of a real department need (work late, work extra shift).
  2. Being on time and ready to work at the start of the shift.
  3. Rotating shifts as required including weekends and holidays.
  4. Utilizing ID badge to clock in and out.
  5. Attending work with minimal occurrences.
