Job Summary

As a software engineer for DRS Naval Electronics, you will work with a team of engineers in the execution of the software architecture and design-related development of tactical radar embedded software. Job focus areas include leading software engineering activities in analysis, software design, development, testing, and modification of sub-systems or systems and the sustainment of these systems through the product life cycle.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • In this role, the candidate is responsible for performing assigned tasks, seeking out clarification when necessary, and communicating progress to the team. The selected candidate supports cross-functional teams with engineers from other disciplines. The cross-functional teams include internal and external team members. Primary and essential accountabilities include, but not limited to, the following:• Provide engineering support for embedded software activities and related documentation.• Developing, integrating, testing, and documenting embedded software using C and C++ for advanced Surface-to-Surface or Surface-to-Air radar systems.• Development, configuration, and deployment of Red Hat Linux OS with Red Hawk real-time extensions.• Perform unit and system-level testing of new and existing software features.• Support software qualification efforts, development of test software and qualification plans, test activities, and failure analysis efforts.• Use Software Configuration Management (SCM) and DevSecOps tools including Git, Jenkins, SonarQube, and others.• Participate as an active team member on an agile software development team.• Participate in Internal Research and Development (IR&D) projects, which may include prototype design and development to retire key development risks.

Basic Qualifications (including education and years of experience required)

Technical degree (Bachelor of Science) or equivalent in experience in relevant field. Experience or training in Software Engineering in an embedded development environment. Must be able to think clearly, prioritize, and solve problems.

The following skills are desired, though applicants are not required to have every skill listed:

• Familiarity with embedded or firmware development processes.

• Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating system administration.

• Familiarity with software lifecycle processes such as requirements, design, version control, testing.

• Experience or training in C/C++ software programming languages.

• Demonstrated capability to learn new tools, techniques, and processes.

• Ability to interpret, summarize, and model legacy code.
