Job Summary
The Learning Support Specialist I, under general supervision, attends and assists teaching assigned courses and provides supplemental instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Meets students and go over their assignments in applicable subject area.
Discuss with students specific topics or subject areas that warrant further exploration.
Review assignments and test scores, and work through problems or questions.
Provides study aids to assist.
May provide input into program rules and regulations.
May recommend suggestions to improve program.
Lead supplemental instruction study sessions and attend assigned classes.
Facilitate learning of course material.
Model effective learning and study strategies for content mastery.
Arrange and keep work hours.
Communicate and meet regularly with assigned course faculty and administrators
Develop and maintain a professional relationship with assigned course instructors.
Maintain confidential records.
Prepare reports.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
Education - Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
Experience - Two years of related experience in advising, tutoring, mentoring or teaching.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in English, History, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Critical Reading, or Writing.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to:
Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities
Experience working with at-risk college students.
Familiar with Texas Success Initiative (TSI).
Strong communication skills with faculty.
Licensing / Professional Certification – None.

This position generally does not supervise employees.
Other Requirements
Must be able to work weekends and maintain flexible hours.
Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
Salary: $17.54/hourly
