Pet Care Technician

 

Required Education

High School Diploma

Vet Assistant or Pet Care training program or equivalent minimum 1 year of working Pet/Vet/Rescue Care experience

Required Training

  • Play Group safety orientation and training for Dog Language & Off-leash Play group (Book and DVD training) within 90 day probationary period
  • DVD study of pet CPR within first year of employment
  • DVD study of Pet First Aid within first year of employment
  • Successful completion of Pet Care Technician Level 1 & 2 training within first year of employment
  • Successful completion of Pet Care Technician Level 2 & 3 training within 2nd year of employment

     

Required Skills

  • Demonstrate safe, compassionate, and effective handling of all pets
  • Demonstrate effective & positive leadership of all dogs
  • Excellent customer service (verbal and written) and be able to clearly explain dog behavior
  • Good observation skills & good hearing to ensure the safety of the pet care (within normal testing of vision and hearing)
  • Demonstrate high standards of organization in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work as a team with fellow employees in the working environment
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of e-mail etiquette and proper grammar
  • Personal motivation to promote dog obedience and the ability to motivate others to do the same
  • Physical requirements:
  • The ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist levels regularly (may be combined with rotation or movement)
  • The ability to be on your feet for 6 -- 8 hours
  • The ability to respond quickly to sounds with good reaction time and sudden/fast response
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces
  • The ability to have good awareness and respond safely to dangerous situations
  • The ability to work in extreme weather
  • The physical ability to handle and safely manage large dog breeds up to 150#

     

Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to the Daily Operations Manual and the Employee Policies Handbook
  • Work evenings, weekends, and Holidays.  Evenings, weekends, and Holidays are rotational and shared among all Pet Care Technicians.
  • Properly care for all pets regarding feeding, medicating, basic grooming, exercising and supervising playgroup. See Daily Operations manual for detailed instructions
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of computer in order to take reservations, check in/out, and invoice customers for all services
  • Answer phone in a professional manner, take messages, and respond in a timely manner
  • Effectively navigate the company website to ensure staff can direct a customer to online registration forms as well as training class schedules
  • Understand pet vaccination protocols. Provide customer notification of any expired vaccines.   Call vet if needed to obtain written record of vaccinations
  • Retrieve pets from office and return pets to customer, encouraging good manners from dogs
  • Responsible for carrying at all times a slip line to move dogs safely and a walkie talkie to be able to communicate with staff
  • Complete arrival/departure inspection on all boarding guests and note any abnormalities as well as communicate any abnormalities to manager/supervisor
  • Communicate any pet issues (health concerns, behavioral concerns etc.) to manager/supervisor
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safe handling of a pet with anxiety/stress and aggression
  • Responsible to know Oscar's Pet Resort General Policies and accurately educating customers of policies
  • Be proactive and seek education from manager or supervisor for any area of incompetence
  • Maintain a clean work environment in office, hotel, gym, outdoor play yards, and dome. Daily/weekly cleaning lists are the responsibility of all technicians
  • Responsible for maintaining the Standard of Quality for all Pet Care as evidenced by proper handling using posi ive reinforcement, proper leadership, safe off leash play, fun and stimulating private play, as well as maintaining a clean and disinfected environment free of clutter and dirt.
  • Responsible for demonstrating good interpersonal skills with fellow employees and reporting differences to manager when problems cannot be resolved
  • Adhere to daily schedule and demonstrate good time management for customers, play group, as well as private play schedules.
  • Wear clean employee attire, which includes employer purchased shirts, or purchased vests/sweatshirts. Oscar's Pet Resort Logo must be worn and visible at all times. Slacks or shorts with no holes should be worn
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

     

Compensation

Compensation starts at $10/hour up to $16/hour depending on experience and job skills.  All compensation is assessed by the General Manager.   Part time receives PTO. Full time receives PTO and paid holiday.  All staff eligible for paid continuing education/training and discount on pet services and retail products.  Career advancement is available and requires commitment and training.

 

Working with dogs is not easy!  People sometimes think we spend our day cuddling with dogs, but that is not often the case.  Instead it is intense understanding of dog language, leadership and having the stamina to handle any and all breeds and sizes.  We proudly employ a team of A+ Players.  Are you one?
