Indian Health Service HEALTH TECHNICIAN (MEDICAL ASSISTANT) in Lame Deer, Montana
Summary This position is located at the Northern Cheyenne Service Unit in Lame Deer Montana and can be assigned to the Urgent Care Department and/or Outpatient Department. The incumbent's tour of duty may include shift work, weekends and holidays. The incumbent is a member of a patient care team that will perform basic patient care services and technical tasks under the direction of the Medical Doctor, Director of Nursing, Licensed Health Care Professional and the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities Conducts intake procedures; obtains general medical information, including allergies and drug sensitivities; and takes and records vital signs (TPR: temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, weight). Assess/Triage patients as prescribed by hospital or clinic policy (i.e.,Government Performance and Results Act [GPRA]). Performs a full range of activities pertinent to the containment and prevention of hospital-acquired infections. Administers oral medication, performs subcutaneous and intramuscular injections for single dose/unit dose and performs blood glucose testing. Completes medical charting thru Electronic Health Record and requests medical charts. Performs other duties as assigned including, but not limited to: EKG, ear lavage, wound care, collect lab samples, when required, and assisting with procedures as needed. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position OR your resume must demonstrate at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: determining patient assessment, distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings, venipuncture, collecting lab specimens, and administering intervention as prescribed by the provider. GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: venipuncture, collecting lab specimens, performing basic wound/skin care measures, and administering oral medication. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required. This position has promotion potential to the GS-06 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
