Natural Grocers Manager of Private Label in Lakewood, Colorado

USD $89,000.00/Yr. - USD $103,000.00/Yr.

Overview

The Job in a Nutshell:

This position is responsible for the design and production of Natural Grocers Brand Labels for their Private Label. In this role you will be responsible for developing our private label products and making sure they meet industry standards, laws, and regulations. You will also be overseeing development, sourcing, marketing and sales with our suppliers and internal teams to ensure our products meet our quality standards. You will work with the rest of the marketing team to develop merchandising strategies, sales targets, and profit objectives. Manages one or more Crew Members.

Responsibilities

Main Ingredients:

  • Conceptualize and brainstorm new creative packaging ideas for new products in the brand.

  • Play a leading role in cross functional teams and developing new marketing strategies.

  • Create digital mockups for new packaging ideas.

  • Present design ideas to internal team and refine designs as necessary.

  • Rapidly ideate and create mockups of packaging for other print and digital marketing collateral.

  • Work with various timelines and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, always delivering creative that is accurate and consistent.

  • Manage and guide all brand creative and design layouts for optimized end-use and delivered according to specifications, production standards, color quality standards and budget.

  • Prepare package and spec files for print/web working closely with internal and external vendors and manufacturers to ensure final product is without flaw including:

  • Compliant with regulations for product labeling (i.e. FDA, USDA)

  • Compliant with company standards for colors, logos, voice, legal, etc.

  • Correctly export digital assets to all needed formats

  • Maintain an up to date and organized set of files for project archive and utilizes the department’s digital assets management systems and file servers.

  • Continue global changes on Natural Grocers Supplements

  • Natural Grocers Bulk Packaging updates on an as-needed basis to comply with regulation.

  • Bulk photography shoots for HHL and {N}power promotions as needed.

  • Product Photography for any other needs from purchasing for promos.

  • Private Label advertisements, including new products and bulk.

  • Barcode generation for Marketing, Private Label and PSDA

  • Collaborate cross functionally with merchandising, planning, design, and technical design to achieve best product results from all angles of the business.

  • Recommend new ideas and methods for construction and execution.

  • Anticipate and proactively tackle potential raw material, margin, sourcing, and execution issues.

  • Supervise negotiations, product development, adoption, sourcing, vendor allocation and production processes across multiple markets and product development vendors.

  • The ability to move a product from initial concept to final on shelf merchandising in 5 months or less.

  • Label production from initial ideation to first proof in 2 weeks or less.

  • Supplement label production from initial ideation to first proof in 1 week or less.

  • Work with Product Vendors to get products on shelf quickly.

  • Present work to a range of internal audiences in a clear, professional manner. Where appropriate, include creative research that will support chosen strategies.

  • Operate as a brand advocate and shepherd the creative standards with all partners (internal and external vendors), providing creative feedback when required and communicate brand updates as needed.

  • Keep up to date with design, photography and print production techniques, proposing new technologies and sharing this knowledge with the team.

  • Complete retouching on files required for internal presentation and work with vendors for final post-production delivery.

  • Create Natural Grocers Brand Product Collateral, print, digital and all other forms.

    Although this is a general outline of job responsibilities all employees are expected to be “hands on” and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive.

Qualifications

Recipe for Success:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or other related areas from an arts College or accredited University

  • Project Management Skills

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in graphic design/art direction to include retail and or retail food brand experience, ideally working within an internal consumer brand environment, or advertising agency.

  • Understanding of consumer product packaging is required.

  • Understanding the compliance requirements and regulations for product labeling (i.e. FDA, USDA)

  • Knowledge about natural and organic products and supplements is preferred.

  • Experience presenting work in a meeting environment to peers and executives.

  • Must be a creative thinker who can provide a solid portfolio of inspiring ideas and packing mockups.

  • Understanding of marketing campaign development and the various mediums to execute an integrated campaign (e.g. print; video, digital; photographic; variety of media outlets)

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud environment applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat)

  • Experience with print, digital, video, social, outdoor, corporate publications design, prototyping, and production.

  • High volume design file, vendor relations, and full cycle print creative process experience.

  • Typography knowledge

  • Visual and creative sensibilities to translate creative concepts into materials for the internal and external consumer.

  • Basic retouching skills

  • Experience with barcode generation for Marketing, Private Label and PSDA compliance.

  • Flexible and quick to respond to changes in business priorities.

  • Ability to work under creative direction and respond well to feedback and critique from coworkers, executives, and manufacturers.

  • Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently under multiple, occasionally competing deadlines.

  • Proactive and solutions oriented with a positive attitude to challenges.
