Brown and Caldwell, a national environmental engineering firm, has an opportunity for a Drinking Water Engineering Intern to provide technical support in our Denver office. We are seeking a motivated and achievement-oriented individual looking to gain practical hands-on experience outside of the classroom. The selected candidate will work with and be mentored by strong, local, and nationally recognized, senior engineers on a variety of environmental-related design and engineering projects. Work will be focused on water quality data and modeling; in particular, contribution to our open-source drinking water treatment modeling tool. Work may also include municipal stormwater, water resources, wastewater collections, wastewater treatment, and drinking water distribution. As a Drinking Water Engineering Intern, you will perform routine support duties requiring professional training but little or no experience. You may be assigned, under close supervision, to: Develop R code for new treatment models in BC: OpenWTP, our open-source R package and web application. Ingest and format data (using programming language of choice) for use in analysis. Format and organize information for reports. Perform basic CAD or GIS input or modifications. Provide basic project support such as formatting and distributing meeting notes, project filing, field site visits, and other general support of project engineers. Participate in field work at client sites, assisting other team members with laboratory or sampling tasks. Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time. Adhere to Brown and Caldwell's quality assurance/quality control process. To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled in a full-time program (minimum nine credit hours per semester) seeking a bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental engineering or similar field. You also must be in good standing and carry an overall GPA of least 3.0 in your core curriculum, as well as a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. Desired Skills and Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer skills a must Experience with R or a similar programming language (Python, MATLAB, etc). Experience using git and/or GitHub is a bonus. Current or upcoming coursework in water treatment, water chemistry, or water resources Strong technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts Excellent organization and communication skills with extreme attention to detail Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple tasks Ability and willingness to perform field work at various sites Candidate must have current driver's license and good driving record Candidate must be physically able to work in the field under varying conditions including the use of personal protective equipment Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
