QA Technician
Job Description
The QA Technician will support the quality and operational teams in the sugar processing operation. In this role, you will perform laboratory analysis and monitor the operation while maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with the Quality and Food Safety systems in a GFSI certified facility.
Responsibilities
Perform routine analysis on raw materials, in-process and final products to ensure that finished products meet required specifications prior to releasing shipments.
Conduct product release procedures and generate Certificates of Analysis.
Perform calibration of lab equipment.
Perform plant-wide monitoring activities to ensure compliance with good manufacturing practices, safety, food safety, and quality assurance practices.
Maintain proper documentation in all formats of record keeping in a legible manner.
Report concise and professional communication in all forms; verbal, written, and electronically.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
A science-related 4-year degree or equivalent experience in Food Quality Assurance/Food Safety is preferred.
Minimum of 1 year experience at plant level QA is preferred.
Formal HACCP, BRC/SQF Training, FSMA/FSVP/PCQI Training is preferred.
Good knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices, 21 CFR Part 117, and understanding of all applicable regulatory requirements (Federal and State).
Understanding of quality testing within the food and beverage industry, including analytical, microbiological, and sensory evaluation.
Basic knowledge of chemical and microbiological analysis and basic math.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make effective decisions.
Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Skill in organization and prioritization, attention to detail.
Must be a team player and leader by example.
Must be able to communicate ideas verbally and in writing, be a self-starter, and handle challenging situations.
Must possess a working knowledge of computers and business software such as Microsoft Office.
Experience in the sugar or sweeteners industry is preferred but not mandatory.
Work Environment
This position requires climbing stairs or ladders, working at heights, lifting, operating test equipment, sitting and finger dexterity for data entry, speaking, hearing visual acuity, and mobility between departments. Work may require bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and crouching; telephone work; ability to receive detailed information through verbal and written communication; ability to express or exchange ideas through the spoken word; ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Use of both hands is required. The work is primarily indoors, with some work to be performed outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is medium/loud noise, and there may be exposure to sugar dust, steam, heat, uneven surfaces, high humidity, slippery floors, cold, and physical and mechanical hazards.
