Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. SoarnoL division is located in La Porte, Texas, and specializes in SoarnoL Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer (EVOH). Additional manufacturing facilities for SoarnoL are located in Japan and the United Kingdom.

Noltex was formed in June of 1994 and purchased an idled Du Pont EVOH manufacturing facility in La Porte. Noltex began production of SoarnoL resin in early 1996 after retrofitting the first of our plant’s production lines.

Our plant primarily serves the needs of the North and South American markets, and supplements product needs in Oceania, Asia, and Europe. With a total annual production capacity of 38,000 metric tons, our EVOH product line includes a wide variety of specialty SoarnoL grades in order to better meet the increased demand for this unique gas barrier resin.

Job Purpose

The primary responsibility of the EHS Technician is the management of hazardous waste, ensure compliance with EHS Regulations while maintaining flexibility for the operation and maintenance of the facility. This includes the transport to and from points of generation, proper storage, and preparation and packaging for proper disposal of chemical and hazardous waste materials. Assist with managing security ID’s, office key’s, issuing personal protective equipment and periodic field assessments. In addition, the EHS Technician monitors waste collection, waste storage and waste segregation of materials as per Federal, State & Local regulations. Inputting purchase requisitions for EHS Department, pay EHS invoices and create monthly accruals.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Tracking the generation of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals for waste disposal, including weekly audits, inventories and coordination of proper disposal.

  • Collecting, tracking, and reporting environmental data.

  • Coordinating and working with contractors to monitor waste volumes, manage manifests, track waste, and schedule pick-ups.

  • Assisting in recognizing and generating new waste profiles as necessary.

  • Assist in hazardous waste determinations, proper packaging and disposal.

  • Conducting inspections, inventory, general housekeeping, and maintenance of waste accumulation and storage areas and associated equipment.

  • Participating in environmental compliance inspections, including conducting and documenting spill prevention control and countermeasure plan, and stormwater permit requirements.

  • Ensuring corrective actions related to identified waste inspection deficiencies are completed and documented.

  • Collecting stormwater samples and ensuring stormwater permit required best management practices (BMPs) are implemented at the facility.

  • Ensure waste is properly packaged and labeled prior to transport.

  • Complete waste analysis sampling by handling quarantined materials dispositioned for waste disposal.

  • Conduct Quarterly water inspections and ensure quarterly and annual reports are completed. Write work orders to correct deficiencies.

  • Assist with computer-based training administration.

  • Assist with annual inspections of safety equipment scheduling and completion.

  • Assist with maintaining digital SDS system.

  • Participate as needed with EHS committee responsibilities.

  • Create Purchase Requisitions, receive invoices and conduct monthly accruals for EHS expenses.

  • File, update manuals, and order supplies as needed.

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or related science preferred, or relevant work experience.

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate preferred.

  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Management training, US DOT Hazardous Material Shipping a plus.

  • Working level knowledge of environmental and transportation regulations for packaging, labeling, transportation and shipping of hazardous materials and hazardous waste.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Wear personal protective equipment as needed.

  • Must be able to hear/see and respond to all communications and alarms.

  • Must be able to distinguish colors accurately.

  • Must be able to work in hot and cold climates.

  • Lift up to 50lbs.

  • The salary range for this position is $40.00 - $42.00. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
