Dairyland Power Cooperative Project Engineer III in La Crosse, Wisconsin

Hiring Salary Range: $111,700- $167,600

Compensation is determined by a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, and certifications. The actual offer may vary, reflecting the candidate's unique blend of experience, educational background, and skill level.

Expert level position responsible for directing the development and implementation of special studies, major construction and installation activities involving new facilities, modifications of existing facilities as well as equipment in power transmission, distribution, and generation. Lead activities relating to transmissions rebuilds and continuing plant optimization of generation facilities.

The impact you will have in this role:

  1. Ensure a safety-first perspective in all work performed. Requires familiarity and compliance with all applicable DPC safety rules and practices.

  2. Direct feasibility and planning surveys, studies, and engineering investigations to evaluate the feasibility of engineered or special projects. Prepare detailed cost estimates, project work scopes and schedules to plan, develop and implement engineered and/or special projects. Perform and review engineering design calculations and approve documentation for plant maintenance and operations.

  3. Interview, screen, evaluate and recommend selection of architects/engineers (A/Es) or special technical consultants and service contractors for engineered or special projects.

  4. Provide necessary administrative and technical coordination for contracted activities of A/Es, consultants, contractors, vendors, and others. Require their familiarity and compliance with applicable DPC safety rules and practices.

  5. Conduct cooperative and effective communications with appropriate federal, state, and local regulatory agencies that may become involved in engineered or special projects.

  6. Develop independently or with technical assistance from A/Es, consultants, contractors, or vendors contract language, drawings, and technical specifications for the engagement of professional services and procurements of materials and other contracted construction or installation services for engineered or special projects.

  7. Identify and initiate potential plant optimization topics and priorities for each unit. Submit and present progress reports for assigned projects. Routinely discuss with executive management team and/or the board, project summary report data, analysis, and budget in order to ensure efficiency and expediency of project completion.

  8. Initiate in-house documentation for engineered or special projects, including the development of well-defined scopes of work, complete economic evaluations, project budgets and defined project expectations.

  9. Direct project-related activities of contractors, vendors and assigned DPC personnel. Authorize and document issuance of all progress and completion reports, purchase and material requisitions, change orders for out of scope work and payment authorization of final invoices.

  10. Conduct continuing technical and engineering research and study to keep abreast of developments and trends in power generation, construction/installation techniques and project administration and management. Maintain engineering expertise through continuing education, conference attendance and cultivation of professional contacts in the power industry.

  11. Provide support to other Division engineers and participate as a team member on multi-department projects or committees.

  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: B.S. Degree in engineering or physical sciences. Minimum of seven (7) years of project management, plant engineering, construction, operation or maintenance experience in the power industry or closely related field demonstrating increased levels of responsibility, involvement, and complexity of work.

Skills: Proficient in all safety rules, practices, and procedures. Computer literacy and skills in a Windows Operating System and related software platforms. Management, planning, scheduling, financial analysis, business economics, and strong background in power plant hardware desirable. Professional communication and writing skills, project management, and administration skills. Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations. Attention to detail. Ability to work cooperatively with people at all levels is important. Familiarity and compliance with current union labor agreement.

Licenses and Certifications : Current Professional Engineer’s License or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable. Advanced safety training is also desirable.

Physical Demands : Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection, etc. Sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, lift (up to 50 lbs.), push/ pull, crawl, twist upper body, climb hand-over-hand), bend and reach. Operate/ manipulate computer, testing equipment, and hand tools.

Environmental Demands: Work indoors and outdoors, frequently in extreme heat, noise and mechanical hazards. Occasionally work in extreme cold, at heights and around explosive, electrical, fume/odor, dust, radiation, radioactive contamination and chemical hazards. Work alongside or near heavy construction equipment, high speed rotating machinery, high voltage, high amperage electrical equipment and high pressure/temperature equipment systems and components.
