JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Salvation Army of La Crosse Emergency Shelter provides a safe shelter for families and individuals experiencing homelessness. We also provide assistance in the form of case management to those within out shelter to assist them in finding employment, affordable sustainable housing, and more. In addition to being assigned a Case Manager shelter residents receive 3 meals a day (and snacks), access to showers and laundry facilities. Every year, hundreds of men, women, and children are provided emergency shelter and fed over 80,000 meals. Community support makes all this possible. Donations of supplies, dollars, and volunteer staffing help ensure the emergency shelter continues serving those in the biggest need. The Intake Worker I (Shelter Advocate I) provides support to the Shelter Manager and Social Services Director by providing supervision and intake of clients, maintaining security, and providing supportive services in a Christian atmosphere. About the role: Conducts intake interviews of incoming residents into shelter Assigns a proper room and distributes needed bedding and personal items Provides necessary supervision of shelter and residents, assuring that rules and policies are being followed Maintains an awareness of client needs Answers telephone calls, taking messages when appropriate Cleans shelter areas as necessary Prepares snacks for shelter residents Oversees lunch and dinner preparations in dining room Reviews log book and updates entries as needed Performs room inspections Distributes medications as needed Supervises volunteers and community service workers, when assigned.
