Job Summary:

Trane Technologies has an exciting opportunity for an onsite position in our Engineering Test Laboratory (Lab) in La Crosse, Wisconsin as an Electromechanical Product Development Technician III . Your primary function in this lead technician position is testing of New Product Development (NPD), sustainability, and quality improvement projects, in addition to some agency compliance. Your technician role would support qualifying Trane Commercial Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) products. The job requires problem solving, troubleshooting, and collaboration with other lab and engineering team members to ensure timely completion of projects. This position is salaried non-exempt.

Where is the work:

This position has been designated as On-Site.

Responsibilities:

  • Work safely and maintain a safe work area in accordance with company policies and procedures

  • Lead product development activities by operating commercial HVAC equipment, controlling test facilities, and collecting and reviewing experimental test data

  • Lead install, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of devices and systems. Including but not limited to sensors, instrumentation & process controls, AC/DC motors, controls, drives, and relay logic.

  • Work with Test Engineering and other Technicians to install and utilize laboratory test equipment including data acquisition systems, power analyzers, flow equipment, pressure, and temperature measurement devices

  • Lead efforts to troubleshooting and repair of Trane commercial HVAC technologies and equipment

  • Drive for continuous improvement in job performance and laboratory procedures

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in HVAC, Electromechanical, Electronics, Welding, Machining, or 2-year equivalent degree program at an accredited school

  • Alternate of 10 years relevant field work experience would be considered

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook) required, with desire to learn basic programming in Visual Basic is preferred

  • EPA Type Universal Certification or willingness to become certified

  • Strong grasp of electronics principles and troubleshooting is required

  • 15+ years work experience in related field preferred

Key Competencies:

  • Understands and occasionally mentors others on refrigeration related thermodynamic principles, and mechanical troubleshooting issues

  • A working knowledge of measurement and control equipment (digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, etc.), data acquisition, and communications

  • Demonstrates and occasionally mentors advanced knowledge of measuring/inspection instruments and or mechanical and electrical components and their principles, properties, and theories

  • Demonstrates and occasionally mentors advanced understanding of schematics, reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical reports, safety rules, operation, and maintenance instructions

  • Ability to understand, follow and author current work instructions and applicable test standards

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of complex variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to listen and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees in the organization

  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced team environment

Base salary for this position is $46,000-$62,000.
