Summary:

The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a Correctional Manager 2. This position will oversee the Treasure Valley Community Reentry Center, in Boise, Idaho. The Treasure Valley Community Reentry Center is a 108 bed residential facility that allows minimum custody residents nearing release the opportunity to work in the community and prepare for a positive community transition. The incumbent has full management authority for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating facility goals and objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and directs the operations of the community work center to include security, treatment, housing, food service, employment development, work release, and facility and ground maintenance.

  • Ensure proper implementation of security/risk control measures and risk reduction programs.

  • Organize people and resources, defines scope of responsibilities, levels of authority, and manages standards of performance.

  • Develop and implements the plan, goals, and policies and procedures for multiple work units.

  • Coordinate multiple programs with program staff, establishes partnerships with law enforcement, service providers and community members to meet the need for safety and co-existence in the community.

  • Ensure the civil rights of residents are provided for and protected.

  • Develop, coordinates and monitors multiple operating budgets.

  • Develop preventative maintenance plans and ensures that staff members are trained in emergency preparedness and audits compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of the criminal justice system. Typically gained by at least two years of experience of experience involving daily interaction with clients or residents to enforce security and safety procedures and/or address client behaviors in a corrections or law enforcement setting, i.e., police officer, probation and parole officer, correctional officer, case manager, mental health or criminal justice professional; OR Bachelor's Degree or higher in criminal justice or related field.

  • Good knowledge of security principles and practices as they relate to correctional facility operations (to include prisons, probation and parole district offices, and community reentry centers). Typically gained by a bachelor's degree or higher in criminal justice or related field AND 2 years of full-time work experience in a correctional profession (to include prisons, probation and parole district offices, and community reentry centers) OR 12 college credits in Criminal Justice or related field AND 3 years of work experience in a correctional profession responsible for security practices OR 4 years' experience in a correctional profession as noted above.

  • Good knowledge of management practices. This is typically gained by at least four college-level management courses equivalent to "Management and Organizational Theory", "Personnel Administration", and "Organizational Behavior" (that cover the essential elements of management) OR completion of Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program OR one year of experience where responsible for all four levels of management.

  • Good knowledge of resident management and risk reduction procedures. This is typically gained by successful completion of at least 20 hours of training in the programming aspect of resident management and risk reduction procedures e.g., Level Service Inventory (LSI), Motivational Interviewing, Effective communication, Suicide Risk Management, verbal de-escalation techniques, or cognitive-based treatment programs.
