Senior SOX Associate

The Senior SOX Associate plans and drives risk-based SOx testing in line with Aon’s annual SOx audit plan. This role reports to the UK Manager, Accounting Control and SOx.

What the day will look like

  • Be proactive and actively develop audit technical skills i.e., pro-actively identification of risks, what-could-go-wrongs, development of test strategies for revenue, shared services process and all lines of business in-scope for the SOx program.

  • Assists the Manager in completing the SOx program i.e., updating the process flows (Visio) test of design, operating effectiveness and roll-forward in Workiva and effectively communicates to control owners, including remediation testing of open deficiencies.

  • Assists with the completion of SOx audits, remediation efforts, project management, audit reviews with EY/ Internal audit.

  • Prepares and conducts walkthroughs with the business and external auditors.

  • Provides assistance to external auditors during their interim and annual reviews of the company with close supervision by the Manager.

  • Assists in report preparation of the SOx 302, Risk and Opportunities report and SOx training presentation materials.

  • Actively collaborates with the UK SOx and Global SOx Core teams.

  • Assists in the evaluation of the overall in-country SOx maturity and work with Global SOx team on how best to achieve best practice with close supervision by Manager.

  • Assists in the Payment controls testing.

    Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • 3+ years of audit and/or accounting experience

  • Qualified Accountant – ACCA or equivalent - qualified, qualification in progress or knowledge by experience

  • A good knowledge and understanding of Sox, IPE, auditing standards and techniques as well as general accounting methods, principles and practices.

  • Good level of technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to challenge information/data and apply professional skeptism.

  • Excellent/Articulate verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with all levels of management within the company.

  • Team Player

  • Able to work independently.

  • Excellent organizational/ project management/planning and multi-tasking skills.

  • Able to deliver and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent attention to detail. The ability to focus on details and perform all required functions timely and with accuracy.

  • Overall proficiency with using Microsoft Excel, Visio and Word.

  • The ability to learn and develop a competency/understanding of Aon operations.

  • Can work flexibly (through Aon’s Smart Working Environment)

  • Knowledge of Workiva Tool is a plus
