General Purpose:
Provide technical support in the laboratory. Assist the lab manager and supervisors in the laboratory operations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain Interstate Milk Suppliers (IMS) certification status for the laboratory to include General Cultural Procedure, Direct Microscopic Somatic Cell Count, Combi Foss, Bactoscan, and Antibiotic tests according to Appendix N
Maintain all records required for IMS certification
Organize, log and analyze samples to meet the requirements for IMS certification
Maintain equipment to include the Combi Foss and Bactoscan and other instrumentation
Maintain laboratory supplies and daily use reagents
Communicate test results and requests to producers and field staff
Transmit or record test results
Maintain records for producer and outside customer billing
Analyze samples accurately and in a timely manner including all calibration sets
Perform all laboratory procedures
Participate in annual IMS and Appendix N splits
Assist lab manager in special projects
Keep lab manager informed of pertinent information regarding the daily workings of the laboratory

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED
Some college education or laboratory work experience equivalent preferably in food or milk
Will obtain though DFA: Certification and/or License – IMS certification for all applicable laboratory instruments and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have basic math skills, communication skills, laboratory skills, and computer knowledge
Must be able to operate with limited supervision
Must be able to work on call (e.g., some Saturdays, Sundays and holidays)
Must be able to read, write and speak English
