Location Overview:

The Knoxville Engineering Office is the engineering hub for the Nuclear, Security, & Environmental business, supporting multiple projects. Projects involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE.

Job Summary:

This position is for a Control Systems Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E execution center team. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

In this position, the engineer will develop standard engineering deliverables including logic & functional diagrams, instrument data sheets, material requisitions, engineering specifications, instrument lists, and more, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. In addition, the engineer will support development of piping & instrumentation drawings, location of controls equipment and instrumentation in the 3D model, and more. The engineer will work with other control systems engineers, other disciplines/functions, and/or the client. #LI-AA7

This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with periodic business travel, as required.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Review project design criteria.

  • Design and review of Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) to add control/functionality for intermediate process control systems.

  • Prepare systems descriptions for the Control Systems discipline systems and review and prepare input to other engineering discipline system descriptions.

  • Prepare design change packages.

  • Prepare setpoint calculations.

  • Specification of instrumentation and control valves.

  • Prepare instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions.

  • Prepare control narratives

  • Prepare digital and analog control logic.

  • Prepare functional block diagrams.

  • Populate instrumentation, valve, and I/O databases.

  • Design and application of tubing and instrument installations.

  • Allocation and layout of facility control system I/O.

  • Coordination of physical locations of instrumentation, control valves, control cabinets, etc.

  • Design control cabinet layouts.

  • Review of supplier provided data and documentation.

  • Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.

  • Coordination of technical issues with other engineering disciplines (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical) and other functions (e.g., Construction, Start-up).

  • Some travel to plant and supplier facilities may be required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Chemical/Mechanical engineering (or international equivalent) with less than 1 year of experience or 4-5 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
