Job Summary and Qualifications

The Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the outpatient and inpatient phlebotomy areas, to include scheduling and direct supervision of all phlebotomy personnel. Responsible for knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the neonate, infant child, adolescent, adult and geriatric population as it applies to Phlebotomy responsibilities. He/she will perform tasks as assigned by the Laboratory Director within their scope of training.

What you will do in this role:

  • Reviews, prioritizes and assigns specimen collection requests to phlebotomy personnel to ensure timely collection

  • Investigates and resolves problems/complaints which involve phlebotomy or specimen collection from medical staff, patient and families, nursing, and other laboratory or hospital personnel

  • Reviews, writes and ensures that laboratory policies and procedures are in place and being followed

  • Responsible for follow up, reviewing and reporting compliance with infection control, patient identification and competency assessments.

  • Participates in interviewing and selecting candidates, to include orienting and coordinating training of new employees.

  • Responsible for preparing phlebotomy personnel schedule in a timely manner.

  • Directly oversees workflow, assesses workload and reassigns staff to ensure uninterrupted quality service.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Three years phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory required

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support

  • Certified Phlebotomist, or Phlebotomist
