Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN in Kingston, New York

Description: The purpose of the Maintenance Technician is to ensure the safe, clean, and successful operation of the Reher Center’s physical spaces, which include the historic buildings at 99 and 101 Broadway (from the basement to the roofs) and the courtyard along Spring Street. The Maintenance Technician will report to the Executive Director and Manager of Collections and Museum Operations. Work is overseen and directed by the Manager of Collections and Museum Operations. This role will require communication before performing tasks, within or on the historic spaces and buildings. About the Reher Center:The Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History is a museum that fosters belonging through community, work, and bread. Based in historic Reher’s Bakery in Kingston’s Rondout neighborhood, the Reher Center draws upon the history of the Reher family as well as the multitude of immigration stories of the Hudson Valley to create relevant programming that engages and empowers visitors. Responsibilities:●Perform cleaning tasks within the historic spaces of 99 and 101 Broadway when directed (e.g., use shop-vacuum in historic spaces)●Perform some maintenance tasks within the historic spaces of 99 and 101 Broadway when directed (e.g., touch-up painting of walls)●Clean spaces in accordance with museum professional standards (training from the Manager of Collections and Museum Operations)●Supervise general maintenance of gallery and office areas including supplies (note: professional cleaning service is hired to come into the gallery, office area, bathrooms, and kitchenette monthly) ●With the Manager of Collections and Museum Operations, implement and monitor an Integrated Pest Management Plan + Housekeeping and Maintenance Plan. (Note: professional pest services occur at the Center for rodents on a bi-monthly basis.)●Weekly monitor & log relative humidity & temperature in historic spaces●Weekly monitor & log wetness of south foundation walls of buildings ●With direction from the Executive Director, support special events when needed. ●Weekly take out garbage & recycling ●Know and be able to implement the Emergency Response and Recovery Plan, if needed●Be available to help in an emergency●Be a weekend contact during on-site public program tour season (May—December)Weekly Tasks●Take out garbage & recycling; ●Monitor & log relative humidity & temperature in historic spaces●Monitor & log wetness of the south foundation walls of buildings●Monitor & log Pest Management Bi-monthly to Monthly Tasks●Check flat roof drain at 99 Bway / clean roof drain of debris if needed●Clean condensation from the interior of retail shop windows if needed●Sweep or shop-vac historic spaces ●Sweep gallery space ●Audit building for any repairs needed●Wash front windows and gallery door if neededSeasonal Tasks●Fire extinguisher testing & log●Roof Cleaning flat roof of 99 - April and early November●In Gallery: Mini-split fans filters cleaned 3 times annually (March, July & November);●HRV unit cleaned 4 times annually (March, June, September, November); filter change, asneeded, every 2 years, depending on condition) ●Lawn and shrub maintenance, as needed●Snow removal, as needed●Meet contractors on-site, provide space access to contractorsAnnual Tasks●Annual backflow preventer test (January) ●Annual alarm test and replacement of batteries (January) ●Fire extinguisher tags (June)On Call●Emergency pest control●Weekend contact for facility issues during May-Decmeber public program seasonThe Maintenance Technician requires a working knowledge of systems, equipment, maintenance and repair as well as general cleaning and safety with a preference for commercial, museum, or multi-property facility maintenance experience or a background in construction/trades or as a field tech. The work demands some physical strength and balance, as well as the ability to operate equipment (Shop-Vac). Carpentry skills may be utilized. Plumbing and Electrical will always be done by only a licensed professional. Salary: $28/hr 2-5 hours a week with an expected maximum of 20 hours a monthJob Type: Part-timeLocation:99-101 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401Physical Considerations:Applicants will need to perform various physical duties as assigned and maintain safety standards. Effective use of light to medium equipment is required. The ability to move and/or assist in the movement of heavy objects is required. The Reher Center has 14 steps leading to the 2nd-floor gallery from the sidewalk. Our historic building is not yet ADA-compliant. The Reher Center is an equal opportunity employer.
