Eastman Instrument Lead in Kingsport, Tennessee

Responsibilities

This role seeks an experienced, results-driven instrumentation professional to translate high-level project goals into actionable work packages. The candidate will collaborate with local and remote design teams to develop processes for detailed design execution across multiple chemical manufacturing sites. Projects will range from single-discipline support to fully integrated multifunctional teams. The ideal candidate should be adept at all aspects of instrumentation design and capable of managing a remote design team while handling estimating, scheduling, tracking, and executing multiple projects.

This Hybrid role can be based in Kingsport TN or Longview TX

Role Responsibilities:

Design and Integration: • Provide strong system design and integration of instrumentation and control systems in a chemical facility, including developing system architectures and selecting appropriate sensors and control devices. • Design control loops to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Specification and Procurement: • Specify requirements for instruments, control devices, and automation technologies, considering accuracy, reliability, compatibility, and industry standards. • Evaluate vendor proposals and select suitable equipment during procurement.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance: • Provide troubleshooting and maintenance support for instrumentation and control systems, diagnosing and resolving issues with sensors, actuators, controllers, and communication networks. • Develop maintenance plans and procedures to ensure system reliability and availability.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, assess risks, implement safety measures, and design systems to prevent hazards. Participate in safety audits and inspections. • Continuously monitor and analyze system performance, identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency improvements, and conduct performance analysis and data studies.

Management: • Lead discipline project execution activities to support detailed design on multiple assignments of varying complexity • Define and improve work processes, implement and oversee checking procedures and provide training opportunities for team members • Support project detailed design plans (including scope development, MTO estimates, schedule input, and discipline staffing to facilitate project objectives) • Develop project deliverable work packages by overseeing approximately 30% of the detailed engineering and aligning the work into manageable segments for remote completion • Interface with project managers and division representatives at various manufacturing sites • Interface with construction forces to answer field installation questions • Ensure successful project outcomes by monitoring and driving team adherence to budgets, schedule and quality conformance requirements • Provide technical oversight to India based employees and contractors

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical, chemical, electrical) from an ABET accredited university preferred or 5+ years of experience in an engineering and/or engineering services organization including project design leadership positions • Proven experience as an Instrument and Control Engineer/Designer in the chemical or similar industry • Strong knowledge and understanding of sensors, control systems, and automation technologies • Proficiency in software packages for instrument selection, sizing, and database generation. i.e. AVEVA Engineering • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to instrumentation and control systems • Computer Environment: Microsoft: Word, Excel, Power Point • CAD tools: 2D, 3D, Laser Scans, Bentley, AVEVA and AutoCAD Platforms
