Minimum Qualifications Non-CompetitiveFour years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.Possession of CDL Class A or B license is preferred, but not required.

Duties Description This posting is for two vacancies: One will be located at Marine Resources Headquarters in Kings Park and the other at Mid-Island Maintenance Center in Ridge. The Trades Generalist will be the lead trades-person in the construction and maintenance of buildings, boardwalks, docks, sign standards, kiosks, trails, parking areas, fishing access and hunting sites. They will be required to use hand tools, portable power tools, heavy equipment, shop equipment, and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the work assigned.This position requires a knowledge of methods, material, tools and equipment used in the craft or crafts to which they are assigned, and knowledge of applicable standards and plumbing and electrical code regulations.Will be required to train and supervise others; plan and lay out work and diagnose problems; and understand and carry out written and oral instructions.May be required to transport and operate heavy equipment.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required.Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required.Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response.Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.Must provide 24-hour response on a rotational basis and work during normal business hours.Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
