In this key role, the Category Manager – Disposal & Recycling is responsible for managing assigned category segments and vendors in an efficient, effective, and reliable manner. Responsible for developing category and vendor sourcing strategies, drafting solicitations, leading negotiations, monitoring vendor performance, optimizing company supplier spending, and helping Clean Earth and Procurement achieve its financial and operational targets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies for assigned category segments, for disposal and recycling services that support the overall Procurement and Clean Earth business goals for financial and operational efficiency.

  • Apply the strategic sourcing process and other category management tools, where appropriate, to drive maximum value.

  • Monitor and conduct periodic vendor reviews to verify vendor performance and risk, contract terms compliance, and SLA adherence to ensure supplier meets operations and customer quality, compliance, and cost objectives.

  • Partner closely with and actively support business and operations customers at corporate and field locations to help ensure vendor resources are being maximized.

  • Identify process, performance and pricing improvement opportunities and best practices on a continuous basis to drive incremental gains for the corporation demonstrated through category cost savings.

  • Maintain a positive rapport with all levels of the organization to foster and promote a diverse and inclusive work environment, high levels of morale, and high employee engagement.

  • Establish KPIs that monitor performance to forecast, objectives, and business plans with year-on-year cost savings.

  • Support the Least Cost Routing program, ensuring facilities leverage optimal disposal and recycling alternatives.

  • Help refine and drive the vision for the procurement function.

  • Manage portfolio of commercial contracts and vendor relationships.

  • Drive total cost of ownership reduction, through joint process improvements with suppliers.

  • Develop RFP’s and negotiate new contracts.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree required - in supply chain, economics, business, finance, or related field.

  • 5+ years’ of procurement and category management experience, with a strong understanding of key procurement principles, strategies and terminology.

  • At least 3 Years Procurement experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or related organization.

  • Proven consulting, influencing, and negotiation skills – ability to ensure strategic alignment with multiple parties.

  • Strong project management and leadership skills. Ability to assign priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.

  • Strong business acumen and teamwork skills, to support operations with a focus on both internal and external customer satisfaction.

  • Proficiency with personal computer applications including MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and intermediate/advanced Excel.

  • Experience working with enterprise ERP systems and procurement modules (Oracle, SAP, etc).

  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills with the ability to speak and communicate effectively with both senior management and technicians / operators.

  • Highly self-motivated to assess and prioritize multiple initiatives, to drive both near and long-term value.

  • Ability to collaborate and bridge across functional boundaries.

  • Ability to travel as necessary (up to 25% travel).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or master’s in supply chain, or related field desirable.

  • Category management experience within the hazardous waste and/or recycling industry, with an emphasis on services including incineration, landfill, waste-to-energy, alternate fuels, treatment/solidification, and recycling/reuse. Similar category experience desired.

  • Experience with the Oracle ERP and procurement system.

  • Experience with purchasing various services throughout the United States, in different regions.

  • Procurement experience working within a large, multi-site organization.
