A successful Fiber Splicer will properly terminate, splices, and preps fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system. Can read and interpret existing fiber matrices; troubleshoot and perform maintenance to resolve signal problems.

Role Overview:

A successful Fiber Splicer will properly terminate, splices, and preps fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system. Will know telecommunication network structure; familiar with fiber optic cable, splice enclosures and functionality of each; perform OTDR and test fusion splicing equipment. Can read and interpret existing fiber matrices; troubleshoot and perform maintenance to resolve signal problems.

Pay: $24 - $38 / hour

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret, input, and analyze data with a high degree of accuracy and completeness.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work within time constraints

  • Operates technical Equipment, including but not limited computer, OTDR and fusion slicing equipment, and functionality

  • Must have knowledge of fiber optic color codes. Interprets prints in underground and aerial environment.

  • Completes daily production reports of work performed

  • Must be detail oriented and proficient with paperwork

  • Ability to use proper use of hand tools, ladders, and equipment to assist in the completion of assigned projects

  • Cleans and maintains supplies, tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations

  • Lifts and manipulates splice enclosure and other plant and equipment

  • Work safely, with or without supervision

  • Excellent manual dexterity

  • Ability to work in cramped and or enclosed spaces for extended periods

  • Work aloft, from a ladder, aerial lift device, or by gaffing

  • All other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with splicing fiber optic

  • Familiar with hand tools and equipment (Wrenches, Drills, Ladders, Lanyards, Forklifts, Saws, etc.)

  • Owns basic hand tools

  • Must be able to lift and pull cable (70 pounds)

  • Ability to apply reasoning and understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions

  • Ability to work in emergencies at night and weekends if needed including but not limited holidays and extending days.

  • Ability to be on-call

  • Travel will be require

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

  • Valid Driver’s License; CDL License is a plus

  • Authorized to work in the United States

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen, background, and motor vehicle record check
