Tecomet Engineer, Product Development Design in Kenosha, Wisconsin
Position Summary
The Product Development Engineer (PDE) works as part of the Tecomet Engineering Team to support the process development and manufacturing of orthopedic joint replacement/implant devices and specialized aerospace components using the forging and CNC machining manufacturing processes. The PDE leads in the Engineering department’s support of Tecomet’s new program development and launches, continuous improvement activities to support lean manufacturing objectives, and the investigation and resolution of technical challenges including materials science related analysis.
Principle Responsibilities
Support new program development of technical and engineering concerns.
Coordinate bill of material, router, and quality plan development.
Support the development of inspection gages and fixturing to support manufacturing processes.
Support manufacturing with any engineering needs, such as identifying and coordinating FEA, materials analysis, non-contact inspection protocols and manufacturing development activities.
Support the development, review and approval of engineering changes and process changes.
Further develop and refine Engineering departmental standards and best practices.
Identify, lead, and assist in continuous improvement efforts.
Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, industry standards and governmental regulations.
Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, groups of managers, customers (internal and external), and student visitors.
Work with mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inference.
Apply critical thinking skills to solve practical problems that incorporate a variety of inputs in multi-variable scenarios.
Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Works well under pressure and remains flexible to changing priorities and day to day activities.
Comfortable leading small projects teams to solve technical challenges.
Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by supervisor.
Qualification Requirements
Credentials/Experience:
Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering (materials science, mechanical, manufacturing, industrial engineering) or an engineering technical field is required and 1+ years of manufacturing experience in engineering or 5 years of experience with materials science, mechanical engineering or an engineering role including intern or CO-OP experience.
3D solid modeling experience
CNC Machining experience
Experience/Educational/Training Preferred:
Materials Science or Physical Metallurgy background is preferable
Knowledge of 3D printing preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Leadership, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions based on available information
Knowledge of 3D CAD solid modeling (NX preferred)
Knowledge of mathematical analysis software (Minitab, MATLAB, Mathematica)
Ability to read technical drawings and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC machining and Forging
Knowledge of Material Science and Physical Metallurgy principles including different metals and alloys
Knowledge of inspection equipment
General knowledge of SPC, FMEA, DOE, Six Sigma, or 8D
Knowledge of FEA
Proficient in Microsoft Office
