Benton PUD Journeyman Meterman in Kennewick, Washington

The primary purpose of this position is to install, test, program and maintain metering instruments, controls, relays, and associated equipment, and troubleshoot related problems. Accountabilities and Essential Functions:

  1. Support the District's mission to serve our customers and foster a positive workplace by personally choosing behavior aligned with our values and ethical code.
  2. Responsible for contributing to safe operations by completing assigned work in a safe, efficient manner that is in conformance with all applicable regulations.
  3. Responsible for ensuring communication system reliability by installing, testing, programming and maintaining metering instruments; controls; SCADA equipment; and relays and associated equipment.
  4. Responsible for ensuring District system reliability by testing, installing, and maintaining instruments and apparatus used in the distribution of electricity.
  5. Responsible for supporting District power quality by conducting load and voltage surveys.
  6. Ensure District system reliability by troubleshooting problems with metering, control and relaying devices and circuitry.
  7. Support the District's financial goals by assisting in preparation of the annual metering section budget.
  8. Responsible for contributing to safe, efficient operations by installing, removing and repairing communications equipment.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED and satisfactory completion of an approved apprenticeship program for electrical utility metering
  • Primary residence within 20 miles of Headquarters
  • Journeyman certification in Meterman craft
  • Must possess and maintain a Washington State driver's license
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification cards or obtain within 12 months of hire

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Intermediate computer skills or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) as adopted by the State of Washington
  • Knowledge of District's customer service billing system or ability to obtain within 6 months of hireĀ
