This Opportunity
WSP is initiating a search for a compliance-focused Senior Compliance Professional for our Kennesaw, Georgia office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
The Senior Compliance Professional will provide project management and technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/multi-phased environmental work, due diligence, environmental compliance, and environmental permitting projects. The candidate develops and manages projects relating to hazardous and solid waste management, air emission sources, water and wastewater compliance, and pollution control. Substantiates report preparation and documentation to advise on observed field conditions and overall risks. Assists project leadership with corrective strategies, classification of contaminated materials, development of process and infrastructure, and recommendations to avert degradation of air, water, and land resources. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
Your Impact
Provide environmental compliance and due diligence program support for clients, including developing procedures and permits, preparing and submitting periodic regulatory reports, and conducting site assessments, desktop reviews, and audits.
Evaluate, review, prepare, and/or supervise the preparation of permit and plans (air permits, SPCC Plans, FRPs, ERAPs, SWPPPs, and other related regulatory related plans and documents), Phase I environmental site assessments, and EHS audits, including performing site inspections.
EHS auditing and Process Safety Management (PSM) auditing experience required.
Perform professional environmental compliance work and conduct investigations and inspections of air emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water/wastewater treatment facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources and proposed and existing site conditions, water resources, and aboveground/underground storage tanks to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental data obtained during site inspections, site assessments, and desktop reviews.
Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address environmental issues or problems.
Develop and prepare environmental compliance and due diligence cost estimates and proposals in response to client needs and other business development activities.
Plan and manage projects according to client-approved scopes of work and deliver high-quality deliverables on time and within project budget.
Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
Remain current in latest environmental engineering techniques.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or closely related discipline.
7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in environmental compliance.
Diversified understanding of process operations in the manufacturing, chemical, utility, and transportation industries and knowledge of the nature of pollutants each generates.
Working knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs.
Working knowledge of relevant State and Federal environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, including but not limited to RCRA, CERCLA, NPDES, TSCA, PHMSA, SARA, CWA, CAA, DOT, and OSHA. International experience a plus.
Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
Experience in conducting environmental compliance audits in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards.
Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
Ability to plan and conduct inspections on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.
Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120), including annual 8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Refresher, and basic first aid and adult CPR training.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Up to 50% travel may be required, depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Environmental Science or other related environmental degrees
Licensure, and/or other related environmental certifications
CHMM Certification preferred.
