Your Opportunity

As a result of our growing business, we have an immediate opportunity in our downtown Kamloops or Kelowna office for an Intermediate Structural Engineer. Your role is to work in a design engineer capacity and support a team of engineers and architects on different sized projects. You will work on buildings and related structures on a range of projects of differing complexity and construction value.

You will report to the Structural Leadership in different BC Office but work on a variety of different projects for different business lines, including Buildings, Industrial Structures, Water (structural), and others.

Strong communication skills are imperative, as the rest of the British Columbia structural team is in Victoria and Vancouver.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with professional maturity with multi-discipline team of engineers and architects in the development of new building structures and retrofit or upgrades of existing structures

  • Demonstrate hands-on energized passion for structural design of building structures and facilities

  • Prepare design documents: drawings, sketches, specifications, reports, analysis, calculations through visual formats and electronic models

  • Manage multiple projects, assign tasks, and direct a team of junior engineers and technologists

  • Utilize 3D BIM technologies to provide markups for junior engineers/designers

  • Represent the structural team at client and project meetings; Travel as required in the Kelowna-Kamloops region to project sites, perform site visits, develop prompt action reports

  • Participate and where required lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors

  • Assist senior staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule

  • Participate in constructability reviews, conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects

  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Significant experience with structural field reviews, speaking with contractors, providing independent instruction and remediation on site.

  • Effective construction administration

  • Thorough knowledge and experience in the application of the National Building Code, British Columbia Building Code, and other relevant design codes and standards

  • Strong knowledge of structural systems, materials, means and methods of construction

  • Comfortable reviewing and assessing existing structures to accommodate change of use renovations.

  • Good understanding of all phases of project document production, the relationship between drawings and specifications, and alternate design delivery methods

  • Well-versed in designs with concrete, steel, masonry and wood / mass-timber

  • Advanced knowledge of seismic design of building structures and structural analysis-design software such as SAP, ETABS, SAFE, RAM

  • Demonstrable ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage the Team’s time to meet project budget and schedule

  • Self-starter with ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience with Revit and AutoCad is preferred

  • Strong written communication skills for writing reports, design, assessment, field review, etc.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with an ability to work either independently or with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with structural concentration; a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.

  • Registered P. Eng.

  • 5-10 years of solid North American experience in the structural design of building structures, preferably with significant responsible experience in mass-timber, steel, and concrete construction.

  • Experience in construction reviews and report preparation is required

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • BC Other Areas $69,400 - BC Other Areas $100,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
