UH Behavioral Health is the KC metro area’s largest, most comprehensive provider of mental health services. The Crossroads Building , located in Kansas City’s vibrant Crossroads Arts District, is its epicenter, providing a broad list of outpatient services. We also offer psychiatric inpatient care, and we deliver therapeutic services through our community outreach clinics. We are a leader in the Trauma-Informed Care Movement, and provide training, coaching and consulting to outside organizations.

Job Description

The Clinical Educator demonstrates knowledge and skill related to nursing and utilizes principles of adult learning to design and implement learning activities. The Clinical Educator works in conjunction with the management team to identify and prioritize learning needs, develop and implement plans to address needs and evaluate outcomes of interventions.

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) across the entities of the organization by providing staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leaders and researcher. Each supports the development of the clinical nurse, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice.

This occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development. In addition, as a role model of professional behavior, the CNE is instrumental in creating a professional nursing climate within the organization to meet the needs of the diverse units within the organization and the global needs of the organization.

Must be able to withstand physical activity which includes the ability to move or lift at least 50 pounds. Travel may be required to facilitate collaboration with entities across the organization.

Minimum Requirements for Full time and PRN:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

  • Current state of Missouri license as a Registered Nurse.

  • Current BCLS and or ACLS provider/instructor status. Other instructor certification current status as applicable to area of specialty

  • A minimum of two (2) - three (3) years recent and continuous nursing experience in an area of clinical or educational practice is required for all RNs. Have recent experience with adult teaching and concepts of learning style.

  • Ability to navigate through the electronic medical record, and demonstrated basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Power Point & Outlook

  • Effective collaboration problem-solving, negotiation and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently/collaborate with colleagues and shift priorities with flexibility.

  • Required to comply with all mandatory conditions of employment to include but not limited to; continuing education, participation in organizational initiatives, annual skills, compliance, safety, and annual health assessments and competency.

  • FOR PRN: Required to meet minimum number of scheduled classes per cycle as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Adult Education or other appropriate health related field.

  • RN Specialty Certification in Education or area of specialty

  • Knowledge of Audiovisual equipment set up an advantage

4. Recent teaching experience with adult learners in the past two (2) to three (3) years
